**Catherine's POV**

The sun’s rays filtered through the curtains, waking me up. I glanced at the clock: 6 a.m. It’s been a while since I slept so well. Today feels like the start of something new—a life where I focus solely on myself.

I got into the bathroom, noticing all the skincare products Serena had gifted me. Normally, I wouldn’t bother, but today, I gave them a try. Afterward, I had some pancakes while skimming through the newspaper.

The interview yesterday went well, and I’ve applied for a few other jobs too. I’m hopeful that I’ll secure something soon. Mom called last night, worried about me as usual, but I reassured her. I chose this path, and I’m ready to face whatever comes my way. It’s time to become stronger.

As I was getting ready for Selin’s engagement, I realized I’d missed countless calls from her. I’d switched off my phone to avoid the flood of messages. I slipped into the red dress we bought during our last shopping trip and quickly did my makeup. Not wanting to be late, I hurried to my car. Just then, Rena called out from her door.

“Cat, my car’s not working,” she said, running toward me.

“Can you drop me at the subway?”

“Yeah, hop in,” I said, opening the door and starting the engine.

“Is that the dress we bought at the mall?” she asked. My eyes were on the road as I replied, “Yes.”

“You’re wearing makeup,” she said, grabbing my face.

“Rena, I’m driving!” I shouted, startled by her sudden move.

“Sorry, sorry,” she apologized quickly, laughing. “But you look gorgeous.”

“Really?” It felt nice to hear someone compliment me.

“Yeah. Too bad James isn’t around to see what he’s missing,” she added. I didn’t want to dwell on that, so I let the conversation drop.

### At the Engagement Hall

When I opened the door to the makeup room, Selin was getting ready. Her eyes widened in surprise when she saw me, just as mine did when I saw her. She stood up and ran toward me in her long gown but tripped halfway.

“Cat…” she cried from the floor, drawing laughter from the stylist and others in the room.

“Why the hell are you running, Sel?” I asked, helping her up.

Once she dusted herself off, she threw herself at me, clinging tightly. “I missed you so much,” she said, nearly knocking me off balance.

“Miss, your hair will get messed up,” the stylist warned, but Selin didn’t care. She pulled back slightly, examining my dress.

“Wow, you look stunning. Your curves are still as beautiful as ever,” she said, beaming.

“You look gorgeous too,” I replied, touching her face. She smiled warmly at me. It had been over a year since we last saw each other, and though I had so much to tell her, I found myself at a loss for words.

“Miss, please sit down,” the stylist urged, and Selin tugged me over to join her.

“Okay, everyone else out,” Selin instructed the others in the room, who I assumed were her friends and cousins. “If you have any doubts, just ask her—she knows what’s best for me.”

The stylist smiled at me as she continued working on Selin’s makeup. We chatted and laughed while I helped with her makeup, though Selin never seemed to stop talking, much to the stylist’s chagrin.
