AFTER EVERYONE HAD GONE HOME, Lanelle was the only one in the kitchen as Jeremiah wanted to talk to her but she waved him off, Conrad was in his room as usual and Belly didn't feel like socialising after she saw her friend and her brother rubbing faces.
The girl couldn't shake the feeling of seeing Taylor and Steven make out, it made her feel so uncomfortable, upset and..angry?
How could he do that to his own sister, how could Taylor do that to her friend. Lanelle rolled her eyes at the thought, "I officially don't like them anymore."
As the girl sat at the counter getting lost in her own thoughts, a voice spoke up
"Can we talk?"
Lanelle didn't have to look to know who it was, she turned around to face Steven, the boy who she wanted to avoid.
"About what?" The girl acted clueless, and that just pissed him off more
Steven sighed, "The Taylor thing."
Lanelle acted as if everything's came back to her, "Oh yes! Now I remember, how was it? Did you like rubbing faces with her?"
The black haired boy rolled his eyes, "Could you stop being so immature?"
The girl scoffed at the boy's audacity, "Steven, out of everyone you should definitely not be the one to talk about maturity."
Steven frustratedly put his arms up, "It was a fucking mistake okay? I'm sorry."
Lanelle rolled her eyes, "You shouldn't be apologising to me, apologise to Shayla."
The boy took a deep breath, she's just so frustrating, he thought.
"Could you just not say anything to Shayla, please? I don't want her to know about it."
The girl sighed, "Seriously Steven? You can't put me in this position. I don't know about you, but I see Shayla practically everyday, she's my big sister. Now you want me to keep this whole cheating scandal a secret from her. Just because you fucked up."
"Don't you know that I know I fucked up? I just don't want to lose her, please don't tell her." He begged
"I can't promise you that I won't tell her Steven. What you did was one of the most hurtful things you could do to someone —"
"To someone or to you?"
Lanelle scoffed, "What the hell are you talking about?"
Steven's feelings started piling up, "I like you Lanelle and I'm pretty sure you like me too." He started stepping closer to her,
"When you saw Taylor and I kiss, did your heart drop to your stomach? Were you hurt?" He breathed as his face was inches away from hers.
Lanelle's heart was practically jumping out of her body, Steven's body heat and language made it practically impossible for her to focus.
The girl broke out of her daze, "Steven shut up. This isn't about me and you, there isn't a me and you, you don't like me.. and I don't like you."
The boy chuckled, as he took a step back, "You're lying to yourself Lanelle. You know damn well, that I like you."
"Then why did you kiss her Steven?" Lanelle blurted out, the tension became too much for her.
"Because I wanted to get my mind off you! Don't you realise what you're doing to me? I'm practically dating Shayla and all I think about is you. Taylor and I made out and I keep on running back to you. You consume my mind and soul Lanelle. I fucking cheated on Shayla, and the only person I thought about was you, I love you."
Lanelle was at loss for words, no, no this can't be true. She thought.
"Please, say something." Steven begged her, the silence was killing him.
"What the hell do you expect from me Steven? You can't do this me, I just comforted you sister because she saw you making out with her friend, how do you think she'd react if she found out her brother is confessing his love to me?" The girl sighed and put her hands on her face.
"When I saw you with Taylor or with Shayla I'm not going to lie, that hurt. And yes Steven I think about you, I won't act as if I don't like you..because I do. But I can't do this to Belly or to Shayla." She continued.
Steven frustratedly ran his hands through his hair, "That's why I need to be with Shayla, or I'm going to keep being more hung up on you than I am now. Do you know how much it hurts when I see you with Jeremiah or practically any other boy? I like you so much, that it hurts."
The boy took a step closer to Lanelle, who was practically tearing up, how did she get herself in this mess?
"I want to kiss you so badly, but I know if I do I'm never letting you go."
"So what does this mean?" Lanelle's voice broke, "We can't pretend like this night never happened."
Steven sighed, "I'm going to college next year, and you're still going to be in high school. I'll wait for you, Lanelle."
The girl nodded a few tears streaming down her face, she felt Steven's soft hands rubbing them off. " I like you Steven — like a lot. But I'm not going to do that to you or to myself, you shouldn't have to wait for me — and I shouldn't have to wait for you.
Steven pulled her in a hug scared of how this conversation would end, Lanelle's face was buried in his chest,
" Steven, promise me you're going to live your best life in college. Do whatever you want, we'll just hope that destiny wants us together."
Steven nodded not letting the girl go,
"So we're in it for the long game?" He questioned as he tore his gaze from the ground to the girl in his arms.
Lanelle nodded, "We're in it for the long game. So be with Shayla or someone else, it doesn't matter. We'll find each other Steven."
The girl parted the hug with the boy she liked so much, knowing that this may be the beginning of their relationship or the end.
Lanelle sighed, "Good night Steven"
