THE FOURTH OF JULY is one of the most important traditions in Cousins. Susannah decorates the whole house, the dads come home for the weekend, Jeremiah, Conrad and Steven set off the fireworks. The Fourth of July is the day where the Conklin and the Fisher families are together with their whole family... except for Lanelle.

As exciting as the Fourth of July is supposed to be, Lanelle didn't even feel like getting out of bed. She didn't want to keep complaining about it, but seeing everyone with their dad..it made her feel so upset.

The fathers of their restricted families come home, celebrating the Fourth with their families. And Lanelle was alone, naturally. She knew that Belly, Steven, Jeremiah and Conrad try their best to include her in the family activities, but it just doesn't feel the same. She feels like a burden.

Lanelle had to be strong, she didn't feel like sulking about her daddy issues, so she decided to be productive.

The girl went downstairs, and she immediately made eye contact with Steven. Flashbacks of last night came back to her, Steven confessed his love for her.

Lanelle still couldn't wrap her head around it, but she shook it off, they're playing the long game and hoping that fate will do her work.

She sat at the counter, and noticed Jeremiah practically staring her down. They still haven't talked about the incident of yesterday.

Lanelle still doesn't know why she reacted so badly to Jeremiah kissing someone else, it just burned a flame in her, she couldn't help it.

Without any words being exchanged, Jeremiah placed Lanelle's cereal in front of her, along with some fresh cut strawberries.

He remembers, she thought.

Lanelle glanced at him just to find Jeremiah looking at her already. "We need to talk." He mouthed to her.

The girl doesn't know why her heart dropped to her stomach at the sentence, she knew that it had to happen eventually. But the tension became too much, with Steven and Jeremiah practically staring her down like predators hunting for their prey.

"Hey are we done with the portrait yet?" Steven asked Susannah, breaking his gaze from Lanelle.

"For today, but you do look good in a dress shirt." Susannah complimented him.

"Which makes me think, Nelly and Belly do any of you have a date for the ball?" The woman continued, a smile growing on her lips, fully knowing what she's doing.

Lanelle shook her head mid in biting her cereal, while Belly shook her head trying to hold her laughter in at how silly her friend looked.

"I have and idea what if Jeremiah takes Belly and Steven takes Nelly." Susannah excitedly clapped her hands.

Lanelle practically spat out her milk,

"W-what?"

"No way!"
