With serious looks on everyone's faces, the entirety of Los Vaqueros and the British guests stood around a table on which lay a map of Las Almas.
The mood was grim but the shadow that lay in your husbands face really took the cake. He seemed as if heaven and hell were about to collide and he didn't know what to think about it.
Even the guests seemed to be everything but thrilled about the fact that things had shifted in their favour.
You took a deep breath.
"I know this is not my place to talk but I think we can all agree that this is the best option we have.", you tried to convince at least half the people present to support your cause.
Even if Alejandro didn't agree, you needed allies so that he couldn't stop this whole operation. At the moment the masked man named Ghost seemed to be your best option. He was calm but obviously dedicated to reach his goal.
The Scot, Soap, had gotten close with Alejandro. You expected him to side with your husband.
That only left Rudy. He wouldn't decide and neither you nor his childhood friend would push him to pick a side. He stood between the two of you, one leg on each of your sides. There was no right decision for him nor a wrong one.
So it was on you to conceive Soap to agree with your plan.
"It's not a solid plan.", Alejandro spoke calmly, yet it was audible to you that wasn't willing to argue.
He wouldn't let you go. Even if it meant to sacrifice everything to the flames.
"It might bring us closer to Hassan.", Ghost noted in his deep, raspy voice.
The look on his eyes was a hard one, almost terrifyingly emotionless. As if he was a soldier and nothing more.
Alejandro gifted him a glance that was more than a warning. So he was very much willing to cut off everyone who would support your lunatic plan.
But you could play the game just as well as him.
"If your Hassan is in bed with the cartel then he will be a cherished guest of them.", you turned to Ghost, knowing that Soap wasn't easily convinced since he sided with your man. "It's very likely that Sin Nombre offers him her best support. That would include a stay at her own house."
"We all know that it's a fortress filled with narcos.", Alejandro hissed.
"You forget who you are married to, mi cielo.", you smirked. "I am narco. A myth, even. They'll let me in. Perhaps they'll even welcome me."
"And then what?", Soap shrugged.
You sighed.
"Well... If we're luckily, if, we could kill two birds with one stone."
"Quite literally.", Rodolfo snarled and crossed his arms in front of his chest. "When the old Sin Nombre died, the new one filled the void. If the current one dies, what's gonna happen?"
"We win time.", your eyes lingered on the map that was covered with lines and drawings. "The largest parts of Las Almas were marked with the same colour, Sin Nombres territory. Further out the colours for more diverse, small narco families and wanna be drug dealers."
"Las Almas would have to fight a war.", Alejandro said, crossing his arms behind his back.
"It's been fighting the same war for decades now.", Rudi's gaze darkened as he wandered over to Alejandro to lock eyes with him. "If Sin Nombre disappears, one way or another, the smaller families will crawl from their holes to fight for the throne."
"It will be chaos on the streets!", Alejandro hit the table.
A shiver chased down your back. It wasn't like him to be this emotional.
"Alejandro.", you stepped forward to grab his hand and give it a gentle squeeze. "The streets are in deep chaos ever since I can remember. The only thing that will change is that the viper won't have a head no more."
"There could be more chaos. More bloodshed."
"Then let there be bloodshed. We'll protect the innocent. Corrupt military will get rid of itself. And the narcos will be busy with fighting for power. All we need is a good plan, a support system."
"What you are talking about will come close to a purge."
Your heart pulled together.
"Sometimes it's necessary to burn something to the ground to build an even stronger fundament on top of the ashes...", you whispered. "I've seen empires rise and fall. And on top of the old one she build something that is unmatched to this day. It has to burn down."
His eyes wandered over your face. It was hectic, uncontrolled, as if he tried desperately to find a good argument against that logic.
"And then what?", he shrugged. "It's rebuild stronger?"
"No.", you pulled away to give him space. "We will prevent it from ever being rebuild again."
"We?", one of his eyebrows rose.
You chuckled, slightly amused by the irony of it.
"Si. We. If you trust my judgement, that is."
Silence circled between the group. All eyes were on Alejandro yet you could feel how some gazes bug into your back.
It wasn't judgement that was dedicated towards you. More of a careful investigation to make sure everything was trustworthy.
It surprised you that Rudy had agreed with you though. However, what wasn't surprising was how dedicated he was to get his home town back on track.
You hadn't expected him to be a man for such risks. You admired the dedication.
"Colonel.", Rudi looked Alejandro dead in the eye. "We should risk it."
Your husband pulled a face. He was about to let out a low growl before letting heaven and hell loose.
"We all have our orders and need to follow them.", Ghost finally said. "We might be your guests, Alejandro, but we need Hassan as quick as possible. In custody."
"Or dead.", Soap added with a serious look on his face. "Either way, we need to start acting."
"And I have the means.", you said. "Alejandro..."
All of a sudden he squeezed his eyes shut and raised his hand to silence everyone.
"What's the plan then?", he finally asked as he looked at you again. "I won't let you go in on your own."
