lxi. trask
( season seven )

GLASS shattered in Lyra Lehnsherr's hand, echoing in the silent home. Stray pieces dug into her palm and the rest fell both on the counter and to the floor. The lights flickered. On the television, where the news was playing, was the words Lyra never thought she would hear.

Bolivar Trask was working alongside the government to implement a new drug to 'help' mutants.

Bolivar Trask.

Former CEO of Trask Industries.

Bolivar Trask, who had been killed by Magneto himself.

Trask, who had been behind Lyra's disdain to speaking, behind her hate for hospitals, behind so much of her trauma. The same man who had ordered the experiments on her, ranging from blood tests to the physical abuse he called 'training'. The man behind the scar on her face. The man who poked and prodded her, leaving behind many scars. The man who built the Sentinels he gave to the government used to destroy her home, to destroy Genosha.

The television, the lights, along with all other electricity in her home, went out. Electricity danced along her hands and arms silently, spreading across her body until she was completely encased. She gripped onto the counter. She could not believe it. This was impossible. Any moment she would wake up and realize this was just a nightmare.

There was a knock at the door. Lyra's heart rate spiked, the lights inside flickering. A moment later, the knocking ceased and was replaced by the unlocking of the door.

"Lyra? I heard the news," came the soft voice of Ororo. She appeared at the kitchen, frowning. "Oh, love..." She made her way to Lyra's side and grabbed her arm.

Ororo was one of the only people able to touch Lyra in this state, due to her own control over electricity. Taking advantage of this, she lead Lyra over to the couch and sat her down.

"You're alright, I'm here with you. You're safe here," Ororo said softly.

"He should be dead," Lyra croaked. Her hands were shaking too much to be able to sign anything.

"I know."

"I saw his dead body. There's-"

"He'll pay for what he did, Ly. But you need to calm down, alright? I know it's hard," Ororo said, letting her girlfriend sink into her side, tears staining her shirt. Lyra sobbed. She did not know how this was possible.

"I'm going to kill him," Lyra murmured as soon as her sobs died down. "He doesn't get to live," she signed, stepping back. She wiped away the tears, putting her poker face back on. She had no time for fear, for anguish. She had to replace that with anger, with enmity. She was going to kill him, once and for all. If she had to suffer the consequences, so be it.

"Guys, if Lyra comes in today, don't say anything," Reid warned as he walked in to work. Everyone was out in the bullpen. Prentiss and Morgan were at Prentiss' desk, and JJ talking to Hotch and Rossi at the top of the stairs leading up to the offices.

Morgan furrowed his eyebrows. "What are you talking about, Reid?" he inquired.

"Haven't you seen the news?" Reid asked. Everyone gave him blank stares. "Bolivar Trask was on the news," he prompted.

JJ frowned. "He's the guy who built those robots that destroyed the island she was born on, right?" she said, if she could remember correctly.

Reid nodded. "Yeah. I don't think she knows he's even alive, so-"
