Tay stood in the corner of the room, his eyes forever stuck at New. His mother in law sat by his husband's side, holding his hand as his father and father in law sat together on the sofa right in front of the bed, looking a lot older than their ages for the frustration and agony of wait hung heavy over every single one of their features,

Right now, they were waiting for the doctor in the ward, waiting for the results of the tests they ran on him for New had not woken up even after the third night had passed.

And this could only mean a few things.

He sharply took a breath in, erasing every thought in his mind and closing his eyes,

Nothing would happen to New.

He believed in him.

He was a strong but silent fighter.

This version of himself that stood here was the living proof of the endless fights New silently fought for him.

New would survive this, he knew it.

The sound of the door click opening echoed in the room as every single head snapped in that direction,

A doctor soon stood before four questioning gazes as they patiently started,

"The results of the tests are back and before I tell you about his situation, let me tell you that it is usually uncommon for the patient to remain unconscious even what they're fighting against."

"What are you trying to say, doctor? I cannot understand." His mother in law's voice quickly cut in, coated with worry as the doctor sighed and got down to the point,

"The patient is actually suffering from swelling in his brain and needs immediate surgery,"

Tay's heart dropped as the doctor took a pause to let the family absorb this news,

The gears of his mind already turning, calculating how much money has he left in his account despite his tied breath,

"And what I meant to say was, that usually patients wake up by the second or third day or so, regardless if they have swelling or not, and right now we are unclear about what is his situation and why hasn't he woken up yet. We can only answer this after the surgery."

And it caught the attention of all three older people in the room, how Tay straightened from taking support of the wall and unfolding his arms as he formed tight fists,

"When can you start the procedure?"

The urgency in his voice,

"We have a surgeon available at the moment so we can start right away."

"Then you please start the procedure immediately,"

The aching desperation glistening in his eyes,

"About the—"

"I'll take care of expenses right now but you please go ahead with the surgery."

And with that being announced, Tay took off before even the doctor himself could as the couple kept staring at the direction from where the man left with their mouths hanging open.

When the door clicked shut for the second time, a thick silence took over, albeit the soft beeping of the ECG monitor, hanging for a long minute before Luang spoke up, his deep voice oddly booming,

"When I said he changed, I didn't lie."

Tay squeezed New's hand softly, his mouth trembling and helpless tears cascading down his eyes as he combed a frustrated hand through his hair, reeling back,
