GORE WARNING!

(OPEN EYE SOCKET WARNING)

Nurse:

I open the medical Bay door, wiping my mouth after my lunch break. "Help!" Sonic called, startling me as I ran over. A turquoise hedgehog laid unconscious in one of the beds. Sonic put an oxygen mask over his mouth and wired it to one of the tanks he dragged over. "From what I think I know, his right arm is broken, he has a stab wound in his chest and he wouldn't open his right eye." Sonic huffed, almost as though he just ran a race at insane speeds.

"Oh my Chaos." I whispered, immediately beginning to wipe away the blood crusted on his chest. "Sonic, can you split his arm?" I asked, getting him to nod as I grabbed a pack of IV fluids and connected it to a needle. I held the unconscious one's wrist and stuck the needle into a vein, pressing a piece of tape down to hold it in place. Grabbing a bag of stitches, I ran back over to him and set to work closing the gash on the turquoise one's chest. Sonic finished splinting the injured one's arm just in time, before camera flashes and yelling came from out the windows. Vector and Amy raced into the room, quickly explaining that the paparazzi was trying to get in the base and take pictures of the Mobian Sonic brought here. Sonic helped them close the windows and pull down the shutters while I finished taping a piece of gauze over the wound on the unknown Mobian's chest, beginning to attempt his eye. I took a deep breath to prepare myself for whatever I was about to see and opened the turquoise hedgehog's eyelid, gagging and trying to look away. But my eyes glued themselves to the horrific sight, so I forced myself to get over it and help the poor child. Racing over to my desk I grabbed all of my scalpel tools and rinsed them off, running back over to his bedside (technically I wasn't running with scissors!). I grimaced and opened the hedgehog's eyelid for the second time after putting on latex gloves and examining it further. The eye was slashed in pieces by large gashes, to the point I could see the back of the socket where it was lacerated into gaps. Other cuts weren't big enough to tell if they were very deep, however I couldn't even tell what color the Mobian's eye used to be due to the chunks missing and the blood covering it. I grabbed a cotton swab and poured a large amount of medical grade alcohol onto it, capping the bottle (to procrastinate slightly) before continuing. I knelt down beside the Mobian's right eye (which was the "problematic" one) and opened it, dabbing the disinfectant on the bloody mess. The Mobian whimpered when I pressed down on the lacerated tissue, more blood and now pus, trickling out onto the cotton. Once I had finished cleaning the eye off, I grabbed one of the scalpel blades and slowly drew it into his eye. The turquoise hedgehog let out a cry of pain as I took out the largest and most infected part of his eye, holding it out of the way while I removed the mussel that connected the back of the eye to the socket (the optic nerve). On top of the blood and pus dripping out of his eye, tears now entered the mix as he pushed me away, still unconscious but in an immense amount of pain. I finished removing the rest of his eye and began to work on disinfecting the socket after I stitched the optic nerve closed. As much as I wanted to keep it open, the large majority of it was also slashed and infected, so the option of a prosthetic eye would have to be out of the question. Wiping the rest of the blood off of the mysterious hedgehogs eyelid and muzzle, I lined the socket in cotton gauze and inserted a "glass eye" (a clear lens that is put in place of an eye to imitate one being there and to prevent anything unwanted from getting into the socket, being inserted just behind the eyelid during extensive eye removal surgery). Standing up and walking back over to my desk, I washed the tools and threw away the latex gloves plus the "medical waste" as Sonic walked back into the room.

"So, how's things going?" He asked, watching me as I created an eye-patch out of gauze before wrapping it around the turquoise hedgehog's eye. I explained what I had discovered, watching him cringe at my report, but I realized I still had a meeting to go to and left him with very clear instructions.

The End
