THIRD POV

Mikael sat on a chair in his daughter's room, his vacant blue eyes locked onto her sleeping form as he listened to her calm breathing.

With the hell Damon had casted upon her, the night was difficult for everyone, but especially for the part of Mikael's heart. Mikael had already had to calm and soothen her down multiple times after she woke up screaming and crying.

His fingers trailed his knuckles that Ayana had healed, the sounds of Damon's screams and pleads echoing in his mind like a broken record. It gave him more satisfaction that he would have liked to admit.

A slight twist and a whimper from her daughter instantly snapped him out of the recalling of events, him gently leaning forward to reach out to her and pat her hair.

With a sigh Rebekah curled around the blanket, making Mikael's lips twitch. He pressed a kiss to her head, before leaning back to the chair and staring out of the window.

Everything, just, everything, was beginning to take a toll on Mikael. He could feel his own mental state cracking under the preasure. All the fights, the downs, the surprises, the complications, everything.

With a sigh he reached a hand to his eyes, rubbing them to relieve the tension under his eyelids.

A certain endless tiredness rested on his shoulders as he sat in the silent room, waiting for the next episode of his daughter.

The simple thought filled Mikael with so much rage, that he could crawl down to the underworld to just unleash all the rage to the pieces of a dead vampire, who dared to ruin his sweetheart daughter's life.

He couldn't understand for the life of him that why, why was all of this happening to him? To her from his life before Mikael.

A vein throbbed on his forehead, when his normally balanced emotions started to bubble over.

Mikael has to calm down, to take a very deep breath and ground himself to that moment to keep the overwhelming rage from taking over.

For a moment, Mikael just closed his eyes and stayed quiet with an empty mind.

He needed some serious damage control.

-

"Yes, what a shame." Mikael said with a deadpan voice, not moving his eyes off the items in the shelf.

He had just gotten to the store to buy necessary items for Rebekah, when he ran into the sheriff herself.

Elizabeth, Liz, had told him about the older Salvatore being dead and how they are trying to find the suspect.

Not that she liked Damon much, but oh well...

"Do you happen to know anything or have you heard of any new vampires?" Liz asked Mikael carefully, being as careful as possible not to appear blaming.

She didn't exactly trust Mikael, but she had heard some good from Caroline.

Mikael shook his head as he took some chocolate into his basket. "No."

Liz sighed. "Damn. I thought since you guys were the or-"

"Yes, you may have thought so. My children have done nothing, nor have I seen anyone new." Mikael said as his fist discreetly clenched around the basket.

Liz raised her arms calmly. "I didn't mean to offend you." She said.

Mikael sighed. "I know. I apologize." He took a deep breath in. "I will let you know if I hear or see anything suspicious. It's a real shame what happened to the Salvatore. Wouldn't want anything like that happen to anyone else, would we?"
