"So, did you?"
"Of course I did!" come on. Anyone would. " and you're making it sound like we had sex." I deeply sigh, while looking at Chloe, thinking that she'll be convinced.
"No but you did make out! Like Big Time! You know. Evelyn." She turns to me. Uh-oh. That look is I'll-kick-his- "I'm THIS close, to kick his ass." knew it.
"Noooo. Nooo. Don't say that. You know, how much I care about what you say and think. I won't be able to be nice to him knowing that you don't like him."
"Well I don't." I look at her, with almost watery eyes. "What? Dude has been lying to you all this time. And you're still gonna put all your faith in him? I'm telling you that's a huge waste of.... Faith, time, energy, feeling.... Everything!"
"But he's so good-"
"At kissing?.... And other stuff? I get it. Trust me it would've been TRULY AWESOME if this was a fling. Good kisses, and all the other good stuff that you're talking about here matters in a fling. Because that's what it is based on." But I honestly have a feeling. A feeling that I can trust him.
Chloe continues "A relationship is something where, trust is the base of the entire fucking connection. And he ditched you there."
"Chloe. I know what you're saying. I am. It wasn't just the kissing. It was everything he said. I looked him in the eyes."
"Oh. with the eyes again." she rolls her eyes. Well she has enough reasons to.
"Yeah. I know, with the eyes, with the voice, with the grip and like I said, everything. Everything he said in the class sounded different. Desperate."
"Yeah, desperate to keep fooling you."
"NO! To keep me from losing." 'Trust me on this one' he said. "Trust me on this one Chloe." And I did. Again. "Listen, I could use a distraction, you free tonight? Maybe we could do a sleepover"
"Yas bitch!" she turns to me "Oh you're in serious need of a distraction. I'll be at your place by 7"
We part, once Chloe enters her home. And I walk towards mine. "I'm home." Steve turns around, looks at me and nervously raises his hand a little. "Oh. hey.... Steve. You.... having fun? With mum?"
"Eva....! don't make Steve anymore uncomfortable than he already is."
"Right. Sure." I smile at Steve. "Mum, Chloe's gonna come for a sleepover tonight."
"Sure honey." wow. She never liked Chloe. She has always told me that Chloe's the one overshadowing me. And now she says 'sure honey'?
"That easily? Really?" I replied to what she said.
She finally turns her head back to look at me from whatever papers she was looking into. "Excuse me?"
"You're okay with Chloe coming here for a sleepover?"
"What, you don't want me to be okay with it? Cause that won't be a proble-"
"Noo. No. Take-backs. I'm fine with it" I hop the first step upstairs when mum's phone starts ringing. "Steve, will you get that?"
"Yeppp sure. It's Ka-"
"Kacy! Yeah. Hand it over." mum almost yells, and cuts him off.
"No it's-"
"YEAH! KACY! Hand it over." mum cuts him again.
"Who's Kacy?" I step back down the stairs.
"She's, uh, this girl, she's helping me with some new orders. I met her in the market last week. She has names of some good textile dealers."
Huh. I take a few cookies and head back upstairs to my room. Keep my bag by the corner, and head to the bathroom. Get freshened up, and lay down on the bed. The more I think about it, the more possibilities come up.
I push myself up from the bed, and approach the study table. Take out some of my books to go through them. All this 'drama' has gotten me so riled up, I can't even look at the books now-a-days.
"Evelyn. Evelyn!"
"AHH." I woke up. "yeah I'm Not spleeping"
"Spleeping? Really?"
"Oh god I fell asleep." I rub my eyes.
"Clearly" Chloe said with a little I'm-not-at-all-surprised chuckle. "You should quit studying till late at night."
I drag myself to the bathroom to wash my face. "Trust me I've not been studying enough. With all the 'drama' that's going on, I can't even focus on one entire chapter, before I start thinking about school and Hazel and Liam, you, Hyde, Leo.'"
"Sure you do. You're the mommy of the group." says Chloe while taking out big chocolate bars that she brought. "So.... we gonna talk about 'the daddy' or not?"
"If you promise that you won't just say you don't like him."
"I can't promise." I look at her, with the intention of saying 'please' "Fine. I'll try. So tell me, what did he say that convinced you one more time, that he isn't lying."
"He says he's protecting me."
"From what?" Chloe's face quickly takes a shift showing 'that's a bunch of shit'
"That's what he won't tell me."
"And that convinced you? Wow. Aren't you the smart one in our group?" hands me a bar of chocolate. I take it.
I open the wrapper and take a bite. "He said he loved me." Now that made her look. "And he said that he can't lose me. He was telling the truth. I have a gut feeling. He said that it wasn't my problem to deal with so he'll fix it."
"Now that's confusing. If he's only using you, why would he say the 'L' word? He could have told you all the other stuff he said. That's possible, but they don't say the 'L' word unless...."
"Yeah.... Exactly my thoughts. Unless they actually, really mean it."
Chloe takes a big bite from the chocolate bar and sighs. "You know. I only want the best for you. And you know that I'd kill for you." I chuckle at how she says that, maybe I'm the mommy but she's the protector.
"But that won't matter if you already get hurt, my killing won't heal that. So just, be careful okay?" and when she says stuff like that, I feel she's the mother.
My phone chimes (New message) pops up on the notification bar.
