My mom was so happy when I handed her the invitation to be a deb with the box checked for a yes.
"I'm so happy for you baby, I'll check with Susannah to see if Belly is going to do it as well. If she is then we can all go shopping for your gowns... That is unless you want to wear mine?" she asked.
"You still have it?" I asked.
She smiled. I knew it would make her and dad proud...
"If it can fit me, I'd be happy to," I said with a smile.
She cheered happily. My mom's phone rang with the happy news. Before I knew it, we were doing SO MUCH shopping. Hats, accessories, dresses, all sorts of things. Susannah was especially excited about the fascinators... We all sat and watched Belly try on dresses for the ball.
"So why isn't Y/n trying on any of these dresses?" Laurel asked.
"She said that she wants to wear mine," my mom said excitedly.
"That's so sweet, Y/n..." Susannah said, grabbing my hand.
"I know, I have to get it shipped over from my mom's though," my mom said.
"I bet it'll be gorgeous on her," Susannah said. "Y/n definitely grew into her looks."
"Thank you, Susannah," I said.
"Seems as though she's already fit to be a debutante, personality-wise," Laurel said.
I smiled. We were having so much fun, just the moms and the girls. I drove Belly and I in for the deb tea and we were pretty lost. We quickly found Jeremiah carrying towels.
"Hey," Belly said.
"Oh my god uh, Belly, I didn't even recognize you... Y/n..." Jeremiah said.
"Tell me the truth, um... Do I look like a fool?" Belly asked.
Jeremiah chuckled to himself, "No. You look good. Let me walk you two over."
Jeremiah looked good in his lifeguard uniform if I was being honest... He really had grown up since I'd last seen him a couple of summers ago. The look in his eye though... Did he have a thing for Belly? We made our way to the tea to find plenty of other debs already there.
"Jeremiah," a lady said.
"Paige," he replied.
"Where is your shirt?" she asked.
"It's always a pleasure," Jeremiah said, kissing her hand.
He knew he was charming, so he'd always use it to his advantage.
"This is Belly... I mean uh, Isabel Conklin. The young woman my mom told you about. My future wife," Jeremiah introduced.
Belly nudged him gently.
"And this is Y/n L/n, I'm sure you've met her mom," he introduced.
"You're both at table 2," she said.
I quickly rushed off, not wanting to get myself into any sort of trouble. Jeremiah still made a scene though, taking a cookie.
"Hello," I said to the girls.
They all seemed to be in their own conversations. Belly sat down and it was even more awkward with all of the drama caused around her at the party.
"Hey," the girl beside me said.
She seemed to be the same girl that was with Steven at the party.
"Shayla, was it?" I asked.
"Yes, I didn't pick up your name," she said.
