Chapter #29

"They look like... spikes?" MG asks as he looks strangely at the sleeping boy in the cell.

"Blades?" Kaleb also asks. They scan over the boy's arms and body trying to figure out what he is.

"Scorpion..." Ethan mumbles from beside Yn and they all turn to him confused. "Well, that's what he looks like to me. And there's also this legend about Scorpion Men from like... Ancient Mesopotamia or something." He explains making the others frown, being even more confused.

"He's right. There are old myths about The Scorpion Men in Akkadian language. And they also have a Babylonian version called the Epic of Gilgamesh." Yn speaks up remembering the legend as she once read about it when they also dealt with a chimera that was half scorpion, and his name was also Lucas.

"That doesn't help us. Well, unless if he's from 19th Century BC." Lizzie points out and Yn nods.

"Right, um... They were described as having the head, torso, and arms of a man and the body of a scorpion, but in his case." She says pointing to the chimera. "More like arms covered with stingers."

"Yeah, alright. So he's a scorpion. Problem solved." Hope says with a faux smile then turns to Caroline. "Can we talk for a sec?"

"Sure, let's go in my office." Caroline says pointing to the door for Hope to lead the way and so they all walk out, some of them heading towards their dorms while the others in the common room or the kitchen.

Yn makes herself a sandwich for a quick night snack and eats it peacefully at the kitchen counter. When she finishes eating Jed enters approaches her with a tired face.

"Hey, can you keep an eye on the scorpion man? I'm heading to bed and I couldn't find anyone else around."

"Yeah, sure. No problem." Yn responds as she puts her plate in the dishwasher, giving the werewolf a smile before he leaves the kitchen.

"Thanks."

The Martin walks down to the werewolf transitional cellars heading to where Lucas is kept in. She sees him still asleep so she takes a seat in the chair next to the bars and waits. Yn pulls out her phone in an attempt to make the time fly by faster and after a few long minutes of playing on the device she puts it away, bored.

The girl looks around the place, inspecting everything she sees as though she's memorising it. A whimper escapes the boy's lips catching the girl's attention, her head snaps in his direction as he seems to move in his sleep.

Lucas turns over loudly in his bed before flipping over again. Yn stands up and looks over at the teenager wondering if he is having a bad dream and about what. He starts trembling and sweating as he continues to shift in bed. Yn walks closer to the bars that separates them, watching the boy with concern.

"Lucas?" She whispers in an attempt of waking him up. "Lucas." She calls out to him but he doesn't react. Yn looks at the bars that make up the door and thinks if she should go in to wake him up.

The chimera murmurs something under his breath as he gets more stirred up and scared. "No." He says again this time louder. "Don't." Yn doesn't waste any more time and opens the door, entering the cell. She walks towards Lucas slowly considering his scorpion stingers haven't retracted.

"Lucas, you have to wake up." She says stepping closer to him. The boy suddenly shots up in bed, his body covered in sweat as he looked around the room. Yn hurries beside him, sitting on the bed facing the scared teenager. "Hey, you're ok. You're safe." She says her hands finding their way up to Lucas's arms, wanting to give a little comfort to the boy.

He looks at the Martin confused as he tried calling his fast breathing before exhaling, "Yn." The girl smiles as he seemed to have recognised her even though they never properly spoke when they went to the same high school. "Oh, thank god." He says before leaning forward to embrace the girl, being careful not to sting her. Yn doesn't hesitate in hugging him back as he needed the gesture more than anything. He wanted to feel safe and something he once saw in the girl told him he'll find that in her arms.
