"I think I'm going to piss my pants Harry," I say nervously.
"Don't worry, we'll be...fine," Harry says uncertainty.
"EVEN YOU KNOW WE'RE GOING TO DIE!" I yell. "I HAVENT EVEN TOLD MY PARENTS THAT IM IN THIS TOURNAMENT YET."
"You what?!" He takes a deep breath. "Okay let's just calm down."
"How can I calm down when we're about to fight a fucking dragon?"
"Hermione are you sure we're allowed to be here...?" I hear a familiar voice whisper from behind the tent curtains.
"Yes I'm sure, shhh I think I heard them," the other voice whispers. "Harry?"
"Hermione?"
She hurriedly comes in and hugs Harry tightly. The person who was with Hermione was Neville. He comes up to me with a sad smile.
"Why do you look so down Neville?" I ask.
"I'm scared for you. I mean, you're going to fight a dragon! And what if- you know..."
I smile reassuringly. "Neville, im not gonna die. Breaking a leg is the worst that could happen"—that's a lie—"don't worry."
He hesitates before hugging me tightly. I never noticed it but Neville is taller than me. I'm about two inches taller than Harry but if you put him and Neville together, Neville is most definitely taller. Interesting.
I hug him back and smile to myself. That's when I see a bright flash. Someone took a picture.
"Young love!" Rita gushes. It seems like she's taken a picture of both me and Neville and Harry and Hermione. That woman does not know personal space.
"How about yo-" I was about to do something very front-page worthy but Neville holds me back before I do.
"It's okay," he whispers.
Rita scoffs. "You don't need to worry, you two will definitely not make it on the front page. You're just rude and..."—she points at Neville—"you're a nobody."
Neville looks down in shame and I gasp. "You bit-"
"That's enough," Krum firmly says, stepping in front of me and Neville. "This tent is reserved only for the champions..." he looks at Neville and Hermione. "And their friends."
I smile at him and mouth the words thank you. He nods reassuringly.
Right at this moment Dumbledore comes in and dismisses everyone except the champions. I watch as Neville leaves quietly with Hermione. We are all told to stand in a circle so we can choose our dragons. Fleur gets the Common Welsh Green, Krum gets the Chinese Fireball, and Cedric gets the Swedish Short-Snout.
I put my hand in the bag and take out a dragon with dark green scales and two enormous gold horns on its head. The Romanian Longhorn.
The Romanian Longhorn is known for its glittering horns that are highly prized for certain potions. It's also the largest dragon breed in size alive. Which means it can crush me to death easily. Great.
"The Romanian Longhorn ooooo," Barty Crouch says in excitement and I just stare at him. You're not the one that's about to get crushed by a dragon.
He lastly moves on to Harry. He reaches his hand in and takes out the Hungarian Horntail. Oh that's not good.
The Hungarian Horntail is known for being violent with its horns and flames that can reach 50 feet. The breed also eats humans. It's definitely the most dangerous out of all of the ones in this tournament.
Harry stares at me in horror and I give him a sympathetic look. "You'll be fine."
But even I know that's not true.
———
Everyone has gone except for me and Harry, in a few minutes I'll be next. I'm sitting and holding Harry's hand tightly because it's either that or scream at the top of my lungs to calm my nerves.
Then I hear Dumbledore. "Our three champions have captured their egg and will proceed to the next task. Our next one will be Asphodel Evergreen."
Harry looks at me and gives my hand a squeeze. "You can do it."
I nod and stand up. "I'll try not to die. Good luck."
I exit the tent and I'm met with a massive crowd sitting on the bleachers chanting my name. I don't know if that gives me the confidence I need but I appreciate it. Suddenly, everyone quiets down.
I get my wand out and wait for the dragon to appear. What's interesting is that this dragon is not particularly aggressive, but it doesn't like sharing territory. I still can't underestimate the ministry though, who knows what they did to that dragon to make it not like me.
For a moment there's no sign of movement and although it looks safe to move towards the egg, I can't take my chances. Suddenly the ground starts to tremble and- there it is.
It looks quietly at me for a minute before frowning and spitting fire at me. I outrun it safely and try to run to the biggest rock with the dragon following behind. I almost slip as I climb the rock and feel a sharp pain on my wrist but I decide to ignore it.
When I get to the top, I face the dragon and point my wand at it. "Aqua eructo!" I yell, blocking out the fire from the dragon.
After the spell is done, I sit on the rock and stare at the dragon gripping my wand. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. The dragon is getting ready to fire at me again but I must focus. I point my wand to the dragon and open my eyes. "Avifors!"
I wave of bright light explodes as the dragon gets visibly smaller. The light dims and all that's left is a shinning almost transparent-like bird. I stand there for a second in shock looking at it. I can't believe I just did that. I then smile to myself as the bird flies off peacefully.
I get up in excitement and run over to the egg before lifting it up into the air as everyone cheers.
I DID IT.
