"The Yule Ball," Professor Flitwick says. "Is one of the traditions that come with the Tri-Wizard Tournament. Now, today you will be getting your first dancing lesson. You will have to get on your toes, because the Yule Ball is as its name—a ball."

The room is filled with murmurs of excitement as everyone turns to their neighbor to ask who they're planning on going with. My mind immediately wanders to Neville. I should ask him to come with me, but at the same time I feel scared. I've never asked anybody to these types of things.

"Now now," Professor Flitwick giggles. "I know we're all excited. I am too, but to master the talent of dancing is something else. I want everyone to stand up, and pick a partner to practice with. It can be anyone just make sure to not step on their toes!"

I look around nervously since I don't know anybody else from my house except Cho and Luna. Cho has already stood up and is dancing with someone so I turn to Luna. "Do you want to practice together? I'm not very good at dancing so I'm afraid I'll step on a stranger's toe."

She smiles. "Sure. I can teach you. My dad and I have been dancing since I was little, it reminds him of mum."

We stand up and we start dancing. It's actually pretty easy. It's mostly a pattern of steps to follow, though I do step on her foot once in while but she doesn't mind.

"So who are you planning on going with?" She asks with a smirk. "I suppose you'll ask Neville. He's a very good dancer, you know. You'll be in good hands."

"No I won't ask Neville! What makes you think that?" I laugh nervously. She gives me a look. "Why did he say anything?"

We both laugh. "Who are you going with?" I ask.

"I think I'll ask Ginny," she says with a smile and a slight blush.

"Oh that's great! She's really cool," I smile. "I wonder who Cho's going with."

"Probably Cedric," Luna says. "I've seen the way he looks at her, and I think he likes him too."

It's studying time in the Great Hall and Professor Snape is monitoring. Everyone has to be silent, finish their homework, have Snape check it, and then they can go.

It's been three weeks since I had my first dancing lesson and I haven't had any success on asking Neville to the Yule Ball. Now the ball is one week from here and I still have no date.

I'm sitting across from Harry, Ron, and Hermione. I try to concentrate on finishing the homework but Harry and Ron won't shut up about the Yule Ball.

"If it keeps going like this, we will be the only ones without dates!" Ron whispers. "Well...us and Neville." He laughs and Harry does too. I look up at the mention of Neville's name.

"Hey, he's really nice, you shouldn't laugh at him," I say.

"Yeah, and besides, you might be interested to know that Neville already has someone!" Hermione whispers back.

Oh. I suddenly feel sick. I glance at Neville and he looks back at me with a smile but I turn away. Harry and Ron keep ranting about their dates but I can't bother on listening anymore. I shouldn't have been so stupid. I should've asked him. But even if I did, I don't think he would've accepted.

I finish my homework quickly and get up. I give it to Professor Snape and then get out of the Great Hall.

I'm just a little upset, not at him or at who he's taking, but more at myself. That's okay though. There's still hope, now that I don't have to worry about Neville, maybe I can find someone else to go to the ball with.

That's when I hear someone call my name. I turn and see Harry running after me.

"Oh, hi Harry," I say with small smile.

"Hey, are you alright?" He asks with a smile. "You suddenly left."

"Oh! It's really nothing. But why are you here?" I ask.

"Well, I know that you don't have a date to the ball...and I don't have one either so I was wondering if...maybe you'd want to go with me?" He asks nervously. "A- as friends of course!"

I shrug. "Sure why not?"

He sighs and smiles. "Thanks."

It's the morning of the Yule Ball and breakfast has been very interesting. The whole Great Hall is covered in undone decorations but so far it looks amazing. They've also put up mistletoes around the school and I've seen multiple people under them already.

"Hey, Evergreen!" I hear a nasty voice call me. I turn and see that it's Malfoy. "I heard you were taking Potter to the Yule Ball! Is he your boyfriend now?"

I can't but notice something different about his tone when he says that last sentence. I roll my eyes at him, "why? Are you jealous?"

He looks bothered by that question. "N- no! I just- ugh! You're so annoying Evergreen! I hope Potter steps on your feet tonight!"

"Yeah yeah, sure, whatever. Go away Malfoy, you look goofy when you stutter," I saw waving a hand at him to go away.

His face looks really angry but he ends up stomping away. What's his problem today?

I turn to Luna with a smile. "Are you excited for today?"

"Yeah," she doesn't look excited at all. Her cheeks are pink too.

"Hey, are you okay? You don't look well," I ask with concern.

"Ginny is going with someone else," she says a little disappointed. "And I think I have a cold."

I frown. "Oh Luna...I'm so sorry. Do you want me to stay with you? Or take you to the Hospital Wing?"

"No that's all right," She smiles. "I like it better when I'm by myself. You have fun for me, okay?"

I smile. "Alright..."
