Songs for the chapter
Still the One by Shania Twain
I Love the Way You Love Me by John Michael Montgomery (But I prefer the cover song by the Irish boy band Boyzone which I used to listen to when I was a kid)
~ Two Years Later ~
"Ladies and gentlemen, we have begun our descent into New York City. Please turn off all portable electronic devices and........"
"Apo?" Mile outstretched his hand to touch Apo's drooping head, threading his fingers through soft strands.
"Hmm...." He curled into a tight ball inside the warm blanket like a feline seeking warmth.
"Wake up." Mile tugged the grey blanky down and Apo made a fussy noise under his breath but sat up straight.
"We've arrived." Mile sat upright and adjusted the seat before fastening the seat belt. "Seat belt." He gestured with his chin at Apo's lap, silently asking to fasten his seat belt.
"Do we have an airport pickup from the hotel?" Mile's mom patted her hair down and adjusted her clothes that had gotten rumpled from 20 hours long non-stop flight. Her old bones ached from sitting too long in one place.
"Mekhala would come to pick us up," Mile said switching his phone off and stuffing it in his pocket.
"With what?" Apo yawned. "Her Mini Cooper?"
"Gosh, I hope not!" Mile chuckled. "We have...." He looked around. "We have more than ten people in our group."
"It's thirteen actually...." Apo blinked, still drowsy from sleep. "You, me and our moms...." He counted. "Tong, Build and Bible...." That's already seven people including us and then there's your full band...." He started counting his fingers. "Jeff, Barcode, Nodt, Ping, Pong and Bas...." Apo nodded. "Yep, thirteen people plus our luggage...." He tapped his chin. "Wouldn't fit into her Mini Cooper."
Mile laughed shaking his head. It was actually Apo's idea to gift the Mini Cooper for her last birthday while Mile had something far more practical in his mind like a Mercedes Benzes or an Audi. But there was nothing he could do since the two have become best friends and Mile never had a say in anything anymore when it came to those two.
Sometimes when his ex-fiancée and current fiancé got together things turn out of control. Such chaotic besties. But Mile just indulged like always.
"She must have hired a minibus or something." Apo's mother said, digging her fingers into her calves, massaging away painful knots. Her soon-to-be son-in-law had picked the most comfortable flight but sitting too long in one place didn't agree with her usually busy feet. "Being a professor of Anthropology in her mid-twenties? That girl is the smartest girl I know."
