Chapter 96

Minhyuk crouched at the locker cabinet at the end of his shift, swinging open the metal door to find a note inside. He looked sideways to check if anyone else could see. They didn't. The other nurses were busy talking about their respective shifts, the crick in their necks, babies they left at creches, their time of commute.

While the starting salary was bleak, the good thing about being young was that while tired, he still felt some excitement the moment he was off the clock. He would think of the coffee he could buy from a nice café, the walk home, joining on the TV show his siblings were watching at the moment, or playing football at the park nearby.

He also looked forward to meeting Dr. Doh. Of course, he had told him to call him other sweeter, more familiar names but calling him Doctor felt right. The note was a prescription paper, signed with his name, and under the medication column he had written: "A night of ice skating with me."

Minhyuk pressed the paper to his forehead, laughing. He knew where to find him.

His lights were on in the parking lot, the car revving as he straightened his beard in the rearview mirror. Minhyuk pursed his smile, peering at him from behind the pillar as he approached him. Maybe it was just the general change of air or the hospital a/c has been working some magic because he looked rather refreshed. Jumpy almost.

He knocked on the window at the passenger side, causing Namjoon Doh to suspiciously look up before recognizing him, face breaking into a hearty smile. "Hey!" he popped the door open, allowing him to slip inside. He rested an arm on the headrest behind Minhyuk as he settled into the seat, unable to tame his smile.

"So..." Minhyuk started as he smiled back, looking the doctor up and down. He had changed into a polo neck with khakis, and his hair looked damp, like he'd used water to sweep them back. He smelled delicious. "So..." Doh echoed slowly, his voice deep and mellow.

"I found the prescription" Minhyuk said matter-of-factly and Doh raised his brows "How was the follow up...?" he asked and Minhyuk tried to keep a straight face as he kept the ruse up "Ever since I was diagnosed with job, I've been so... stressed"

"Terrible, isn't it? So many people every day just... suffer from... job, " Doh said sympathetically.

"Yeah..." Minhyuk bit his lip "I need a suitable course of treatment... starting with a night of ice skating with you. "

"O gosh..." Doh reached across Minhyuk, grabbing his seatbelt and stretching it across his chest, locking it down "You think can be brave through it all?"

"I can try," Minhyuk giggled.

Grant Hyatt, Seoul Ice Rink, 322 Sowol-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

"Whooo!" Minhyuk smoothly zipped on, making a sharp turn around to face Doh, his face filled with glee "This is the best!" he laughed as Doh slowly caught up to him from a few meters behind "I'm just trying not to smash a knee... one dumb move and I'm a goner" he held his hands out.

"Aw come on" Minhyuk reached out for his hand "You're doing just fine" he wound an arm around his elbow, slowly leading him forward. "I'm going to fall, don't cling to me" Doh grumbled as Minhyuk laughed "I won't let you fall"

"Whee" he couldn't help but squeal as they glided across the rink. "Glad to see you're having fun,
" Doh smiled a little, casting a glance around the rink, at the various couples, some scrabbling for surface, some huddled at the edge. It was all shouts and giggles.
