Chapter 9- A Nicer Sandwich?

To no one's surprise, Eve was at Charlie's doorstep at the crack of dawn. Her black hair and clothes were soaking wet due to the fact that it was pouring outside. Sure, she was only out there for about thirty seconds, but it was enough that the girl was dripping wet from head to toe and she was shivering uncontrollably.

Eve waited for about a minute until the obese man opened the door for her. His eyes widened as she saw the girl and pushed his wheelchair as quickly as he could, scared that if the girl was out there any longer she would catch a cold. "Thanks." Eve said as she rushed by Charlie.

She quickly went into Charlie's room and opened a drawer on his dresser that was dedicated to the younger girl's clothes. She quickly grabbed a new set of clothes and raced into the bathroom. "Do you mind if I take a shower?" Eve yelled to Charlie. "Yeah! Go ahead!" He yells back.

After a moment he hears the shower turn on, he smiles as an idea pops into his head. The man starts to wheel himself into the closet where his washer and dryer was. As he opens the washer he notices that he can't reach into the machine without having to stand up. Charlie sighed loudly, he knew the girl had had a rough few days and he also knew that once he passed it would only get worse for her, so he wanted to do something kind for her.

He took a deep breath and grabbed the edges of the washing machine. He took a moment to prepare himself and started to push. His legs automatically started to shake and tense due to the amount of weight put onto them. He groaned and panted, determined to stand up so he could do this for Eve and put a smile on her face. He kept on pushing and pushing, until his legs finally straightened and he was leaning on the washer. Charlie took a moment to think about his achievement and he smiled widely before reaching into the machine and pulling out a towel. Once he grabbed it he struggled but managed to push himself back into a standing position but after he did his smile grew. He placed the towel into the dryer and turned it on.

He stood there, waiting until he heard the shower turn off. Charlie knew that the teen took long showers and his legs were going to be sore by the end of this but he couldn't care less. Eve was going through a rough patch and she would be for a long time. Charlie knew that his passing would break the girl so he wanted to give her tons of happy memories before that moment came.

He heard the shower turn off the same time the dryer beeped, indicating the towel was done. He reached in and dug his hand far into the dryer. He grabbed it and this time it seemed ten times harder to push himself up but he didn't give up. Charlie faintly heard Eve calling for him. That was all the motivation he needed and with one final push he managed to stand up straight. "Yeah?" He called back to Eve.

"There are no towels in here! Can you grab me one from the washing machine?"

Charlie smiled, "Yeah, sure!" He pushed himself back slightly and let his body fall back into the wheelchair. He let out a deep breath of relief at the feeling of there no longer being a ton of weight on his legs. How does Eve do this?

He pushed his wheelchair to the door of the bathroom. He closed his eyes tightly and knocked on the door. When he heard the door creak slightly he blindly held out the towel for the girl. She giggled at how dumb he looked with his eyes shut that tightly, "Thank you, Charlie." she said as she grabbed the towel from him. She paused slightly as she felt the warmth of the towel on her soft hands. Eve shut the door and wrapped the towel around her body. The smiles on her face grew significantly as she dries herself off with the warm towel.

After she finished changing into some dry clothes, Eve found herself sitting in her chair. She read her book but since the girl had read it before, it seemed everything was going in one ear and out the other. Her eyes skimmed over the letters in a high speed that could impress even some of the fastest readers.
