"Stand closer," Aubrey said, motioning with her hand. "Also look happy."
I glanced back at the house, then looked back at Aubrey and Kenny. Josh and I were standing on the front lawn. I was uncomfortable with having my photo taken and it was translating through my nervous body language. I smiled a little when Josh moved me in front of him, wrapping his arms around me.
I managed a smile, trying to make it look authentic despite feeling nervous. Aubrey angled her phone and Kenny tried to snatch it from her.
"Fuck off, babe." She snapped.
"Aw, pet names even when I'm being annoying," Kenny laughed. "You're definitely the one."
"Yeah, right," Aubrey said, glancing back at Josh and I. "Josh, smile please."
"I reserve the right to not smile fully." He said.
"A smirk is not a smile," Aubrey insisted. "I've seen you smile at Daisy."
"Then you know too much and must be eliminated." Josh replied, and I giggled.
"I-i can smile enough for the both of us." I said, and Aubrey laughed.
She steadied her hands and tapped the screen on her phone. I heard the click as she took a picture. She lowered the phone and started typing something.
Josh leaned, scooping me up. I squealed out a laugh. He settled me in his arms and I smiled at him.
"The next time I carry you over the threshold, it'll be when we're married." He murmured, so Aubrey and Kenny couldn't hear.
"C-can't wait." I giggled.
"Hey, no fair, this would have made a cute photo." Aubrey whined, noticing us.
"I also reserve the right to not have you stickin' photos of me all over your Instagram." Josh said.
"But my caption is really cute," Aubrey giggled. "It's to celebrate you guys moving in together properly."
Josh shrugged and walked towards the door. We'd just unlocked it and he pushed open the door, carrying me inside. I glanced at him again and he smiled.
"Kiss?" I whispered.
"Ask and you shall receive, little mouse." He said, kissing me.
We pulled apart and he set me down. The lounge was bare now. The couch that had been here had been sold as well as the coffee table. We'd kept the washing machine and fridge. Kenny and Aubrey walked in.
"This is really nice." She said.
"Yeah, not too shabby," Kenny said. "When's the new furniture arriving?"
"Anytime between now and five." Josh said.
"While you guys are sorting out the furniture, Daisy and I will sort out the bedrooms." Aubrey said.
"F-follow me." I said, and she smiled.
We walked up the stairs. The first bedroom at the top of the landing was my old room. I approached it and looked inside. My old bed was in here and my wardrobe was open, revealing my clothes.
"We should move all your clothes to the master bedroom," Aubrey said. "Then we can grab the boxes of Josh's clothes from the car."
"Right." I said.
We started grabbing clothing off the hangers. I followed Aubrey down the hall and she nudged the master bedroom door open. It was empty now. The built-in wardrobes were open and ready to be filled.
