As Aiden reached the intersection, he glanced down fearfully, hoping the band still covered the words around his wrist. On his fifteen birthday, he was gifted with the first words his soulmate would say to him. And, unlike the regular "Hello" or "Nice to meet you", he was cursed with a rather unique one.
"I know where you live."
These words, written sloppily with the 'y' hooking onto the next victim, spacing uneven, and letters almost stacked upon one another, haunted him in his nightmares.
He was scared that his soulmate was some creepy stalker who would murder him in his sleep. They did, after all, know where he lived.
Please, Indra, don't let me die at the hands of a stalker, he prayed internally.
Meeting one's soulmate was supposed to be one of the best things to happen to people, but he supposed never meeting his would be a blessing in disguise.
Suddenly, someone bumped into him. Aiden turned around to see a short girl with dark skin and a braid over her shoulder. She had huge brown eyes, and her face was scrunched up in annoyance. Aiden couldn't help but think that she looked kind of pretty.
"Ugh..." She muttered, rubbing her arm where she had bumped into Aiden.
"Oh! Uh, hello!" Aiden said, flashing her what he hoped was a nice smile.
The girl looked up, and her face morphed from annoyance to surprise once she saw him seeming startled that someone was there.
Aiden just stared at her, hoping he didn't look stupid and that she would say something.
Well, she did say something.
Just not what he expected.
"I know where you live!" she blurted. Immediately, her hand went to her mouth, embarrassed that she said that.
"I know where you live..."
Aiden blinked at her.
"What?"
"I... Um... Demons. Bye."
The girl sprinted away, and Aiden couldn't help but stare, mouth wide open as he watched her disappear into a house.
I know where you live? Seriously?
Aiden looked down at his arm.
