"Ah, parting is such sweet sorrow, my lovelies!" Cecile purred, taking the both of us into a full embrace. For a shorter woman, she was pretty strong, and I swore I heard my spine crack in three places. Thank goodness for that sick day. That woman practically wore us out at the club. We might have been younger, but she had a ridiculous amount of stamina. The club couldn't hold her. "You younguns sure know how to show an old lady a good time! I danced so much that I'm pretty these heels are stuck to my feet!"
"Did you really need to keep us out so late, mom?" Kaim complained as he yawned. "It's almost one in the morning on a weekday - you know I have to work tomorrow!"
"Psh, you did a hell of a lot worse when you were in college - why are you complaining like you're older than me?" Kaim glowered while Cecile gave him her best troll face. I loved every moment of their banter, even if I was pretty tired myself. "Get over it, Nummy Honey. If you're tired tomorrow, you can always drink some coffee and take some no-doze."
"Just promise me you'll come and visit on a weekend next time," he grumbled. "Please, I'm begging you, Ma."
"I'll consider it, especially if it means I get to see this special little lady again." Cecile patted me on the cheek before taking my hands in hers. "I'm so glad that I got to meet you Zara - you are a fine young woman and a perfect match for my son. I can't wait until my future grandbabies pass through those sexy hips of yours!"
Just like that, I was wide awake, face tingling in awkward embarrassment. "Ah, well, I don't know..."
"Don't frighten her, Mom!" Kaim buried his face in his hands. "You like her - I get it! But if you keep this up, you'll scare her off!"
"Then you'll just have to convince her to stay, if you know what I mean." Our eyes went wide at Cecile's insinuation, and I swore I heard a strangled scream escape Kaim's lips. "Anyway, a lady needs her beauty rest before she heads back home on the roads. So, I'll take my leave." She looked over to me, throwing me a wink. "Remember what we talked about, dear. Just enjoy yourself - no worries."
"Talked about?" He glanced over to me, then over to his mother, puzzled. "What are you talking about? What are you talking about?"
"Just girl talk, that's all. Nothing to worry your pretty little head about." With a mischievous sparkle in her eyes, she hopped into the car, waving us off. "Goodbye, my lovelies! I'll be waiting by the phone for the engagement announcement!"
"Stop pushing it, Ma!" Kaim cried out as she revved up the engine, zooming down the streets into the early morning darkness. I couldn't wipe the smirk off my face as he turned to me, perturbed. "Ugh, I love her so much, but she drives me crazy it."
"Hey, don't talk about my future mother-in-law like that!" I don't know what made me laugh harder - his scrunched up nose, or his sour expression. "What? She said it, not me."
"Don't you start too, Zara. I think I've had enough craziness for one night."
My eyes softened as he ran his fingers through his hair, Cecile's words replaying in my mind. He was right - the time for games was over. I wanted nothing more than to wrap him into my arms hold him close. I wanted to show him just how much he meant to me.
"You're right, baby." I reached over, brushing a few locks of hair from his face. "You took care of us all, night. Now, let me take care of you."
"Take care of me?" he asked, curious. "What are you talking about - "
"Shh." I placed a finger on his lips, quieting him. There was no hiding the lust in my eyes. "Don't talk - just let me do my thing."
