Part 20: Family and threats

Josephine Rogers Rhee POV

I was sitting with Optimus and Predaking. "Hey! THAT IS NOT FAIR!" My brother yelled. I laughed. Predaking smiled. They were playing a card game. Optimus took a bite out of his food. He then rested his head on my shoulder. "Which one?"

I pointed to a card and he put it down. Predaking glared at me. I laughed.

"I'd like to propose a toast." Abraham yelled. Everyone sat down and Predaking and Optimus put their card game down. I snickered.

"I look around this room and I see survivors. Each and every one of you has earned that title. To the survivors!"

"Survivors!" I turned and Daryl smiled at me. I smiled back. "Is that all you want to be? Wake up in the morning, fight the undead pricks, forage for food, go to sleep at night with two eyes open, rinse and repeat? Because you can do that. I mean, you got the skill. You got the strength. You got four goddamn dragons." I smiled.

"Thing is, for you people, all you can do that's just surrender. Now, we get Eugene to Washington, he will make the dead die and the living will have this world again. Now that is not a bad take away for a small road trip."

I sniffled and laid my head on Optimus's shoulder. He smiled and kissed my head. "Eugene, what's in DC?" Abraham asked. "Infrastructure constructed to withstand pandemics even if this fubar magnitude. That means Food, fuel, refuge. Restart." Eugene told us.

"However this plays out, however long it takes for the reset button to kick in, you can be safe there. Safer than you've been since this whole thing started. Come with us. Save the world for that little one. Save it for yourselfs. Those dragons out there. Save it for the people who got nothing to do but keep going." Abraham proposed.

Rick smiled. He glanced at me. I smiled. Judith cooed. "What was that? I think she knows what I'm about to say. She's in. If she's in I'm in. We're in!" Rick said.

All of us clapped. "Let's do it." Rick got up and put Judith down.

"Okay. I am not letting Jo be the only one that gets to hold that baby." I laughed. Optimus got up and he picked her up. Judith cooed at him. I smiled. I laid my head on Predaking's shoulder. Mommy smiled at the two of us.

She was willing to adopt Predaking also. He was very sweet once you got to know him. Tara told Maggie she used to be with the Governor.

Maggie told her she's family now. Maggie hugged her.

Rick sighed as he looked at Gabriel. "But if your secret hurts my family or that girl right there..." Gabriel saw Jo and she was laughing at something Maggie said.

"I will kill you." Rick promised.

Suddenly I heard screeching. I looked at Rick. "Why is she doing that?" He asked.

"Something's wrong."
