Concert Night

Lola

"Lo, girl come on damn. You ain't gonna get no cutier by stayin in the bathroom all night." Ariel hollered from outside of the door.

"Okay, I'm comin'. I'm comin'" I shouted back while checking myself out in the mirror one last time to make sure that I look flawless.

Tonight's Bishop's party so she came and scooped me up from Uncle Keem's about an hour ago so that we could get ready at her place. I opened the bathroom door and strutted out in my new form fitting Chanel crop top and skirt set with six-inch knee-high boots that Ari talked me into getting from the mall last week to wear tonight.

"How do I look?" I asked my best friend as she applied a coat of gloss while standing in front of her vanity in a gold Versaci jacket and white bustier, before looking over at me.

"Girl...you betta watch out tonight hunny. Ion think he's gonna be ready for all that Miss. Lola, you betta werk." She raved while snapping her fingers as I turned and giggled so that she can get the full view of my ensemble. Nervous doesn't even begin to describe what I'm feeling at this moment, it feels like forever since I've been able to see my boo and I'm extra excited.

My phone began vibrating so I picked it up from Ariel's bed while she ran into her walk-in closet to grab her own matching shoes so that we can head out. I glanced down at my phone, it's a text from my uncle.

Unc. Keem: Aight, I lied to ma so you could get outta the house tonight so please Lo...please be careful and don't make me regret it. Ya grandma hits hard as hell and I ain't tryin' to catch dem hands if she finds out.

Me: Thank you so much Uncle Keem. I really appreciate it and don't worry, I promise I'll be careful.

Unc. Keem: 😤You are so not welcome. Ya bony ass blackmailed the shit outta me and I'm still kinda salty.

Me: LOL. Your fault...Shouldn't have been doin' dirt then. Love you and have a great show.

Unc. Keem: Love you too. Be SAFE and have yo black ass back at my house by three...here me. Have fun.

"Okay, I'm ready. Let's be out." Ariel professed after grabbing her keys, purse, and coat.

I followed behind her with one of the many furs my grandmother bought me in hand and slung it around my body as we made our way outside and into Ari's white Land Rover. My girl turned up the tunes as Drake's Hotline Bling blared through the speakers and we both sang along.

It's now bout 8:45 and it won't take us long to get to our destination. The Lyon Music Foundation Concert's starting around nine so pretty much my entire family will be preoccupied, and I'll be able to get in this party and back before anybody notices.

My phone vibrated once more:

Bae: Where y'all at Dolce?

Me: We're on the way now babe. Shouldn't be too much longer.

Bae: Aight. I can't wait to see you girl. Been thinkin' bout you all damn day.

Me: Well you won't have to wait much longer. I'll see you in a few.

I couldn't contain the smile from spreading along my lips as I replied to his texts, "Damn. You cheesing like hell over there Lo. Bishop done sprung that ass." Ariel teased as we cruised along and got onto the highway.

"Shut up. Always talkin' junk, you damn hater." I snapped back and she laughed while focusing on the road ahead of us.

I gazed out of my window, took a long deep breath while the white lines of the highway blurred past us. This is gonna be the first time since my grandma found out about us that Bishop and I will be able to spend any real time together at all. Yet, the closer we get to the Glenmere Mansion Hotel where he and Ari's boo thang Chancelor are having the party, the more and more butterflies swarm around in my stomach.
