Carmen
Something hits me in the face pulling me out of my dreams. It was somebody's hand. I roll over and bury my head in the pillow. There is a pesky ringing but I ignore it, diving deep back within my dreams. "Carmen! Your alarm is going off!" I ignore whoever said that pulling a pillow over my head to block out the noise. "Carmen!" someone shoves me, sleepily shouting my name. I scream as I fall of the bed hitting the floor.
"Jesus fuck, Willow!" I prop myself up on my elbows and look up at Willow who is now sitting straight up in her bed, her hand over her mouth. "Uhh, Willow, if you wanted me out of your bed you could've just asked." Her face is pink and she jumps down off her bed to help me up to my feet.
"Oh, Carmen, I'm so sorry. Your alarm was going off and you wouldn't wake up and I didn't mean to push you so hard." she babbles on. I shake my head and laugh at her. Her cheeks turn pinker. I grab her extended hand and stand up. I reach for my phone turning off the alarm. A text from my dad warning that he was on his way to come pick me up. Her sent that five minutes ago so I have about fifteen to get ready. I grab my bag and start shoving my things randomly in my bag. I see Willow cringe at the sight of the disorderly way I keep my bag.
"Willow, I'm sorry again about last night." I zip up my bag and pull it over my shoulder. I plop down on Willow's bed, finding my socks and pulling them on. Willow stands awkwardly with her arms crossed over her tummy. She looks uneasily at me. We sit there like that for who knows how long. Willow finally opens her mouth to talk.
"Carmen, I-" a horn blares outside cutting the rest of her sentence off. She runs over to the window and looks outside. "That's your dad."
"Wait a minute. Will, what were you going to say?" I jump off the bed, my bag falling to the floor in the process.
"Will?" she shakes her head at me. She bends over and picks up my bag holding it out to me. "Goodbye, Carmen." she gives me a sad smile. I open my mouth to protest but another honk from outside stops me. Sighing I grab my bag from Willow. I leave her standing in my room, my mood low. I frown as I shove my feet into my converse. I wave a small goodbye to Willow's mom, Iris. I step outside to the cool midmorning.
Willow's neighbor, Dax, stands outside his house. He is a kid in our class that never really got along with Kyle so I never really talked to him. He has his dog with him, and it runs around his legs barking slightly. Dax looks over and sees me looking at him. He waves and smiles. I give him a sweet smile before showing him a finger..... One certain finger. I watch his cheeks flush and he turns and stalks off in the other direct. Ha! Loser.
I open the door to my dads car, throwing my bag in the back seat. I slide into the passenger seat and slam the door behind me. "Who's that boy?" my dad motions to Dax's back. He pulls the car into reverse before backing out of the driveway.
"Nobody," I say. I watch as we leave the towns limits. I look to where Willow and I played Train Chicken. I think back to what Willow was going to say before my dad showed up. I lean my head lay against the window of the car, letting my mind jump from idea to idea with no rhyme or reason because when you have an ADHD mind, that's what it does.
