Carmen
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" I say, fixing my gloves that go to my elbow to hide my bruises. I kept fidgeting with my red and black dress that went to my knees and readjusting my black mask with roses on the side. I wobble slightly in my tall black heels as I stare into the crowed gym. People swirl on the dance-floor in so many ways that it gives my brain a headache.
"Don't worry," Kyle reassures me, grabbing ahold of my hand and pulling me closer to him. "You look amazing." Kyle had on a black and red tuxedo that matches my dress. He also had on a black and red diamond mask. "Now let's get a move on!" And with that he pulls me by the hand into the gym.
Suddenly, the place went dead silent. A million whispers break through the crowd, most of them including my name and those of my close friends. A certain voice catches my ear though. "Carmen." I look over to see Willow slowly making her way over to me, her arm looped through the guy next to her. I can barely recognize Willow in the dress she is.
"Miss me?" I ask once she is close enough. She sighs in what sounds relief and rushes forward to wrap her arms around my neck in a bear hug. "Hey, Will," I say softly as I pull my hand away from Ky's and throw both of my arms around Willow's back.
"Look at you!" She exclaims, pulling back from the hug and looking me up and down. I shrug, not really wanting anyone to look at me. My mom went to town on dressing me up. She made my makeup really dark, by my request, so that I would be less recognizable. My eyes have dark eye shadow around them to hide the purple bruises there. My lips have a bright red lipstick just to match my dress. My hair is still straight.
"I know. I feel great for just waking up in a hospital from a coma yesterday," I joke but behind Will's silver mask, her blue eyes start to water.
"Well, Carmen, you look gorgeous," says the guy who is still standing quietly next to Will. My eyes widen and a giggle escapes my mouth.
"Cody?" I half say half gasp. I look from Cody's tux to Willow's dress before raising my eyebrows at Willow. Her cheeks start to turn pink as she makes a point of avoiding my gaze. "Thanks," I say at Cody, winking at him. He grins ear to ear.
"Heeeeey, Carmen," a voice slowly drawls behind me. I roll my eyes before turning around to meet a wall of pink.
"I'm sorry, but do I know you two?" I ask Sam and Jordan sweetly. Sam glowers at me while Jordan simply scoffs.
"Last I heard Carmen, you weren't to safe to be around. I mean..." He holds up a bandaged hand, "I did have to find out about your temper the hard way." Sam grabs ahold of the hand he is holding up and intertwines their finger. They both smirk at me.
"Ohh, you guys are Jason and Sally right?"
"Their Jordan and Sam, sweetie," Kyle fake reminds me, wrapping his arms around my waist from behind me. "You remember them right? I mean you so kindly included them in you letter."
"You can't forget Kyle's and Willow's biggest mistakes," Cody laughs.
"You three had the richest background," Willow giggles beside me. "A very interesting story."
"It's slowly coming back to me... The bitch and the asshat right?" I ask. Sam pales and Jordan opens his mouth to say one of his 'witty' comebacks, when Principal Oak walks behind them and places a hand on both of their shoulders.
"I hope you two are being kind to our guest this evening," she says. "Especially you, Jordan, are walking a thin line." With that she steers them away from my group, but flashes me a smile over her shoulder. "Nice to see you again, Miss Devon." I watch her quietly talk to them with amusement.
"Carmen, I think now should be the time you tell Will about tomorrow," Kyle whispers in my ear. I sigh and look over at Will who giggles like a five year old at what Cody says. Then she suddenly starts to blush as he leads her out to the dance floor. Like magic, a slow song comes on as soon as the reach the center.
'"Not now," I watch Cody and Willow dance in a swirl of blue and silver. "I don't wanna ruin her night. Let her have her fun." I look over my shoulder at Kyle to see him watching Cody and Willow too with a hint of jealousy on his face.
"I wish you didn't have to go... I wish we could be normal like that," Kyle sighs and grabs ahold of my hand leading me out to dance. I placed one of my hands in Kyle's and laid the other one of his shoulder.
"I've passed the point of no return when it comes to normal," I barely say as I lean my head on Ky's chest.
