The end of May was quick to roll around. And Althea had given into the idea of going to prom. So there she was inside the prom venue in her long red dress with her hair and makeup done. Lights flashing as the music boomed through the speakers. She stood with her small friend group who were all hyped up for the night.
She made her way over to the snack table, grabbing a few pretzels when Rosalie Hale walked up to her with Emmett beside her. A smile graced on her face while she looked over the girl in adornment. Just as Rosalie predicted, Althea looked amazing. And she definitely had more than a few heads turning.
"You came afterall," Rosalie spoke up.
"Well, you did seem to constantly bring it up for the past few months. So I eventually gave in to the idea," Althea told her.
"And I also said you would look amazing if you came. I was right," Rosalie commented.
"Don't get too big headed now, Rose. I would say I look more ordinary than anything. I just found a dress last minute and put something together quickly," Althea admitted.
"Though you might have done it effortlessly, you don't look ordinary. You look stunning. Right, Emmett?" Rosalie turned to look at her partner.
"Thanks," She chuckled in response. " I'm surprised Rose was able to get you into a suit."
"Oh, I put up a fight. But whatever she says, goes," Emmett shrugged which earned him a slap to the chest by Rosalie as she glared up at him.
"I get it. She did get me to come here," Althea related to the guy.
"Look what the cat dragged in," Emmett commented, nodding his head in the direction of the entrance. Their eyes landed on Edward and Bella. Rosalie slightly scowled at the sight. Still not a fan of Bella even though she was now dating Edward. Rather liking Althea and Edward together more but she would bite her tongue on that one. Once the couple caught sight of the others, they made their way over to them.
"Wow, Al. You look amazing," Bella complimented her sister.
"Thanks, Bells. You pull off the boot well with the dress and single converse sneaker," Althea said.
"She's right. You look really nice, Althea," Edward agreed, Althea sent him a smile in return. He couldn't help to hide the slight admiration in his eyes again. She looked amazing.
"There's actually someone outside waiting to see you," Edward told her with a bit of hesitation in his voice. He had debated if he even wanted to let her know but he figured if he didn't Bella would. Her brows furrowed, a little confused. But she excused herself from the two couples and made her way outside.
Once she got to the parking lot, she looked around until her eyes landed on Jacob who wore some black dress pants and a loose white dress shirt and tie. His hands in his pockets while he kicked the pebbles on the ground. A smile spread on his face once he saw the girl. He rushed over to her and spun her around in his arms as she laughed.
"Look at you," He said adoringly, placing her down on her feet again.
"What are you doing here?" She asked the boy.
"Well, I was sent here on a mission for my dad. But I also just needed an excuse to be able to see you. I was surprised when I heard that you decided to go to prom after all," Jacob told her.
"Trust me. I surprised myself," Althea admitted.
"I was hoping maybe I could steal you away for a dance?" Jacob wondered, suddenly getting a bit nervous. Althea held her hand out for him to take before he pulled her in. They begin to steadily sway back and forth to the faint music playing from inside.
"I bet you've been told already by a lot of people, but you look beautiful," Jacob complimented her.
"But it's nice hearing it from you," Althea said to him with a cheesy smile.
The two continued to dance until the song came to an end. Slowly, they stopped but still stayed close. Jacob looked into the girl's eyes before glancing down quickly. Althea's heart dropped to her stomach at that moment.
"Could I try something, but don't hold it against me if it doesn't work out well?" Jacob asked her. Her eyes widening but she nodded her head in response. The boy leaned down connecting their lips. Something Althea had once wished for when she was younger was happening. But it didn't feel quite right. The fireworks she always thought would be there, were nonexistent. She still felt Jacob and his warmth, but it didn't feel like how she thought it would. The missing puzzle piece she had once thought would connect the moment they finally kissed turned out to feel like the wrong piece being forced into place. Though she wasn't the only one who didn't feel the spark there, Jacob had still liked the thought of kissing her. He had always adored the girl and he had a love for her. It wasn't the love that he had hoped it would be, but he was blinded enough to believe that it was.
Althea was the first to pull away from the boy. A small frown on her lips while her mind started to go into overdrive. Jacob saw her reaction and was quick to squeeze her hand.
"It's alright, Thea. Maybe it just needs some time. I figured I'd give it a shot at least," He tried to guide her away from overthinking it all.
"Yeah. Maybe it just needs some time," but she knew that wasn't it. "You're still my best friend, Jake. No matter what,"she told him. He hummed out in response before hugging her. But her mind was quick to wander again. Soon enough it would all make sense. Althea would eventually fall into the right direction and stumble upon who she was destined to be with all along. It was going to be one hell of a rollercoaster and emotions will end up all over the place. Crazy things have to happen for a reason to get you to where you truly are meant to be.
