Bella had come home from the movies the previous night in a sad and confused mood just like Althea. The older Swan girl was quick to go into Althea's room the next day after getting off the phone with Billy Black to tell her about the weird occurrence. It had just been her, Jacob and Mike Newton to show to the movies. And by the end Jacob was acting weird and more angry along with the fact he felt like he had a fever. What Bella had told her, left Althea slightly puzzled. She had noticed before everything between her and Jacob slowly fell apart that he was a bit more short-tempered. The slightest things upset him. Just like when he found out she was going over to Sam Uley's house to hang out with Emily Young. He looked like he was going to tear the room apart. And now all of the sudden Billy was saying that Jacob had mono after he lost his temper with Mike Newton last night. It was a little weird. The last time she checked that wasn't one of the latest symptoms of mono.Althea had then informed Bella of how her night went. How it was going good and right when they were about to kiss the boy had gotten a call and ran off. Though Bella agreed that it was weird, it was only Althea who was piecing it together that it was a suddenly strange coincidence how their timelines seemed to line up quite well. Jacob flips out and heads home while Paul gets a call and is gone without a second thought. It left her a little suspicious.
And the younger girl was led to a spiral of her own as the days passed by and she heard nothing from Paul. He wouldn't even respond to her to let her know he was okay. It was infuriating. And that was ultimately one of the reasons why Althea was afraid to let her guard completely down when it came to feelings. She hated how she got her hopes up that maybe it would be different. Maybe she could finally give in without being afraid to let someone in.
Bella kept trying to call the Black residence but Billy kept telling her the same thing which was Jacob was still sick and couldn't talk. To say the two sisters weren't getting irritated was an understatement. They would go to school and then come right home hoping that they would hear something from the two different boys they were waiting on but it was radio silent.
Althea really began to kick herself more for believing that things would work out. No matter how right she felt being around Paul, maybe it was her mind and body playing tricks on her. It also didn't help easing her conscious of all the stories that the guys would tell her about the infamous Paul Lahote in school. The stories began to swirl around in her head constantly. He was a ladies man and always with a different girl. Perhaps she should've listened to Jacob and kept away.
