Jacob and Bella had returned to Jacob's house after visiting the pack at Sam's. They're talk had branched out from the topic of Leah and Seth joining the pack after Harry's death. As Jacob pushed his bike towards the garage, the topic of the triangle between Leah, Emily, and Sam had emerged. The pain-fest each of the pack members had to endure because of how the fates had played its course.
"So Sam dumped Leah for Emily?" Bella questioned.
"No, it wasn't like that. Sam hates himself for hurting Leah. But Emily was the one," Jacob told her.
"Yeah, I guess it sorta chooses you," Bella agreed. Jacob scoffed at Bella. The girl didn't get it one bit.
Bella Swan was too blinded by her obsession of Edward and him being a vampire to really dig deep into the whole feelings aspect. After all, she ignored Edward's many attempts to keep her away because her feelings were only at the surface. They were like the changing of the seasons, after so long, the feelings change, they want something more. How Bella went from liking Edward for his mysteriousness, to liking him for being a vampire, and then to liking him because she wanted to become a vampire herself. She wouldn't understand the concept of the imprint. Just like she wouldn't understand the true concept of a mate bond. She would only view those through her own warped perception.
"It's more than some crush, Bella. Sam imprinted on Emily."
"Do I even want to know what that is?" Bella asked.
"Well, you'd learn about it sooner or later," Jacob put his kickstand down before looking over at Bella, "Imprinting on someone is like when you see her... everything changes. All the sudden it's not gravity holding you to the planet. It's her. Nothing else matters. You would do anything, be anything for her."
"Sounds like you know the feeling. Have you imprinted on someone?" Bella wondered. A little hesitant to know if there was going to be somebody else in his life.
Jacob looked down, "You would know if I had. I just have a direct line to Sam's thoughts, and the others who have imprinted."
Bella took the words in. So he hadn't imprinted on her. But he's saying he also hadn't imprinted on anybody else.
"Not even Althea?" Bella couldn't help but ask.
"Althea's already been imprinted on," Jacob told her.
The girl looked at him in shock, "What? By who?"
"Paul. Their bond is something so peculiar. Something I never saw coming but neither did he. They just work. It makes sense with them. Everything else around them just got cancelled out," Jacob said.
