There are some things people would do before they die. The other things are what people would actually die doing. This is one of those things where I would die attempting.
"Chase, is it your mission to have me in prison or killed?" I shouted. Everything we've done so far could've gotten us in a lot of trouble. Whether it was because of law-breaking or because Chase wanted to do stupid shit like this to have us killed.
"Come on Effy!" He slapped my shoulder, my feet slid over some pebbles but Chase caught me before I could fall off the cliff. "Live a little!"
"Live a little? Chase! This. Will. Kill. Me!" I screamed at him, projecting my voice with each word but he only laughed. He laughed in my face. A fit man that looked to be in about his forties walked up next to me. I know what he's about to do, tell us the rules and then have us jump off.
"Could you tell her this is 100% safe?" Chase called to the man.
"I wish I could" The man let out a husky chuckle. I gasped and looked at Chase while he
tried to hide the laugh that was trying to escape.
"Chase!" I shouted.
"Ok. Mr. Turner and Ms. Glade, I am a certified professional, my name's Jack. I'm supposed to jump with you and not get you kids killed" He informed us. I choked on the air I breathed in through my mouth hearing his words, actually coughing loudly. I didn't feel so good. My palms were sweaty and there was a small headache coming on. I couldn't do this. I just couldn't. The man moved over to me adjusting something around my waist.
"Woah, dude" I warned
"Relax Effy. He's just making sure your harness is secured" Chase enlightened me with humor laced in his voice. Jack reached up strapping the helmet tighter making me wince slightly at the unusual, slightly irritating feeling.
"Are you comfortable?" Jack asked as he stepped away observing me.
"No" I replied after thinking about it
"Great" He commented moving on to Chase to do the same he did to me.
"You're not s'pose to be comfortable." He said.
"Effy, make sure when we're jumping you don't jump into me because then we're going to die together" The nineteen year old guy I've been risking my life for each time we were together, chortled.
"Is he serious?" I asked Jack. Jack looked at me with an unreadable expression making me gulp.
"Yes"
"Oh my fudge cakes" My body gave in as I started falling backwards.
"Now, you wait now. I was just there kidding." Jack said catching me before I could faint.
"You should both take a deep breath to remain calm before you jump"
"Oh I'm calm. Effy you could take my breath for me since you're so jumpy and scared" Chase snickered from next to me. He deserved what I was about to do. Reaching up, I slapped him in the back of his head making him cry out momentarily but a smug look came on. Well at least he was quiet and no longer teasing me.
"This is safe as long as you abide by them rules y'all read earlier. Ok youngins'?" Jack said. We nodded at him remembering the pamphlet we were given when we walked into the recreational spot. "Now how do y'all want to jump?" He asked with his heavy southern accent. I looked to Chase and he shrugged.
"What do you recommend sir?"
"I recommend you two hand in hand. Start together, die together is the motto" Jack chuckled. I would've gasped but that was the reaction the both of them wanted from me. Instead, I ignored him and looked at the drop below. We were at the top of a high cliff that was posed so you could see the entire forest full with gigantic trees. There was a river surrounded by big rocks at the bottom of the drop. The sun was shining bright over the trees and there were flocks of birds gracefully traveling through the sky.
