The lunch break is about to end. Alex and Simon just found Maddy and Howe, eating lunch outside.
Simon: There they are. Ready to do this, or what?
Alex: Not even a little bit, Simon. But I have no choice, mate.
Simon: Relax. I'll go there with you.
Alex: Thanks, mate.
[Alex and Simon walk up to Maddy and Howe]
Howe: Alex!
Alex: Howe.
Maddy: Alex.
Alex: Maddy.
Simon: Alex.
Alex: What?
Simon: I don't know. Everyone else was saying your name. I didn't want to feel left out.
Alex: ... Whatever. Maddy, can we talk?
Maddy: Sure. I'm listening.
Alex: I meant in private.
Howe: (gives Alex the death stare)
Alex: It's not what you think, Howe.
Maddy: (checks watch) We don't have much time left.
[Simon's phone beeps]
Simon: (checks phone) Looks like you just gained some extra time. The afternoon english class is not gonna happen.
Alex: For real?
Simon: Yep. (shows Alex the phone) See? The teacher called in sick. This is honestly turning into one of the best first days of school, ever!
Howe: (under his breath) I really don't think so.
Alex: What do you say, Maddy?
Maddy: ... Fine. Let's talk. Simon, keep Howe some company, will you?
Simon: Okey dokey.
[Alex and Maddy walk away. Simon sits next to Howe]
Simon: So, uhm... This is awkward. We were enemies yesterday.
Howe: Yep. And acknowledging it like that right away, is not helping.
