Miles High was deserted. Silence had taken over. I walked through the corridors and looked for a way out of the twisted maze. It looked the same as Miles High, but the rooms would lead to another, continuing on into a labyrinth. The atmosphere was cold. I was blindly led through the rooms, by the light that escaped the overused curtains which hung over the windows. All of a sudden, a quick sharp noise came from behind me. I turned to see that a metal can used to hold pencils had fallen off a teacher’s desk. I began to panic and whirled around me in search of someone or something. I stopped turning as something caught my eye. Two objects glimmered in the distance, almost as though two coins had reflected light. I cautiously strode towards the glimmers. It would frequently disappear and reappear within a split second. The darkness that consumed the room slowly lit up. The curtains revealed soft rays of sunlight that protruded the windows. Before me laid a boy who was curled up in his arms. He was lying in a pool of blood that seemed to be his own, which seeping from his ears. I rushed over to aid him. I didn’t know what to do.

“Help! Please Help!” I reminded myself that nobody was there to help me. He slowly opened his eyes; his tears seemed to be blood. He strained to look at me. His eyes were glimmering. They weren’t opaque, but rather a bright light. Shocked I began to scream. He then lost consciousness. I continued to scream, crying for help. I calmed myself down and looked up. The window before me was still covered by the curtains. I looked through the dark doorway, in hope that I wasn’t alone with a dead boy. I strained my eyes, to find a pair of bluish – grey eyes looking back at me.

I gasped for air. I guessed that I was on a hospital bed. Four white walls surrounded me. The heart monitor beside me was beeping away. I relaxed myself and patiently waited. I didn’t know what I was waiting for. I looked to my right to find my bedside table was filled with flowers, teddy bears and chocolates. The clock that hung on the opposite wall of my bed showed that it was four in the morning. I moaned. I wondered how long I was out, and I was determined to see Mum in the doorway. I pressed a button next to my bed for assistance. My mouth felt dry. I was thirsty as hell. I waited quietly, playing with my fingers. I had a needle through the middle of my hand and a few other wires here and there.

There was a soft knocking on the door before it opened.

“Nurse –“I paused midsentence. It wasn’t a nurse. “Austin?”

He crept into the room discretely before closing the door behind him. He was wearing a hoodie with skinny jeans. His eyes were careful as he observed me.

“Hey Maddy, how are you doing?” he whispered pressing his lips together. He walked towards my bed and sat beside me. He leaned towards me and softly touched my face.

“I’m actually perfectly fine. Fill me in on what happened?” I asked. I assumed he knew.

“You hit your head in the park. Andrew brought you to this place. The weird thing was, when you got here, the place where you hit your head had already healed. There was only a scab there. you were unconscious for three days. Today would have been your fourth. “

“What? Jesus! I’ve missed out on so much!”

“It’s fine. Everything has been handled. I wish you would have been more careful Maddy,” he said sternly. His face showed signs of distress. Unexpectedly, he leaned forward and kissed my forehead. I could feel his soft delicate lips touch me. It made me go crazy. He quickly stood up and pulled the hoodie over his hair.
