Rei Ikari

I Do (Not) Know Who I Am Part 3.

"Ikari-san," started Fuyutsuki "We're sending you a spare rifle."

"Take it Rei!" Yelled Kaji-san.

Before Rei could react and grab the rifle, the angel launched it's arm tentacles to her neck. The initial static was now a burning that lasted for a few seconds once the Angel threw her up to a mountain. The fresh air felt soothing on her neck when it hit the raw flesh of the Eva.

"The umbilical cable's been snapped off!" LEva has switched to its internal battery power source."

And alarm counting down and showing 4 minutes, 53 seconds of activation remaining glared at Rei's side.

"Rei! Get up! lt's coming this way!" Why does Kaji-san cares?

"Rei-san, are you all right? Damage report!" This time it was Dr. Akagi that asked.

"No problems detected. She can make it."

Another alarm opened a side window showing two kids wearing uniforms. Rei forgot that there's a shelter nearby. She needs to get the fight FAR away from here. But, are those...

Rei and Ayanami's classmates? What are they doing there? Rei's poor reflexes actually saved them this time once she grabbed the tentacles with the Eva's hands, putting both giants at a standstill.

"Why inside, Beloved?"

For whatever reason, Rei's blood ran cold, what was that voice? She's been hearing it but can't understand why it's saying that. She thought it was the shock of the first battle against the Angel, but the medical team checked her, they said she was fine!

Between clenched teeth Rei asked "Deputy commander, two civilians in proximity, what should I do?"

"We miss and we cry, Beloved, for you."

"Why isn't she fighting?" Toji asked with urgency, scared of the creature that's a few yards away, he can feel the hairs on his arms stand up.

"Maybe because we're so close! Anything she does could hurt us!"

The clock now showing 3 minutes 28 seconds made a drop of sweat ran on her back underneath her blue suit, and her breath starting to shorten in the effort.

"Let them into the cockpit Ikari! Once you've got them, make a temporary retreat to the next umbilical cord extension and drop them off there, use the AT field while evac finishes" Dep. Commander Fuyutsuki's voice was clear and composed. No one dared to question his orders.

Unit 01's remaining activation time: 3 minutes.

"Rei-san, hold Eva on your current commands and
eject the entry plug. Hurry up!"

Following Dr. Akagi's instructions, Rei opened the entry plug, as if she was dismounting a bike, she got up and shouted "You two! Get in! Now!" Both boys were shocked at her volume but moved once they met her eyes, blazing blue shining with as much fear as they were feeling.

Once inside the Eva, splashing could be heard "What the... lt's water?"

"My camera! My camera!" The LCL was refilled and her classmates were surprised by it. Rei didn't even think how natural it was for her to breathe in it now.

Maya's voice was heard through the cabin "Abnormal conditions occurring in the nervous system."

"Of course. lt's because of the two foreign bodies into the matrix!" Dr. Akagi sounded furious and offended, Rei could tell that she was not on board with letting the boys in here "They're being detected as noise in the nerve impulse systems!"
