All three pilots were being showed the last image of the shadow figure inside the volcano. Misato-san's voice was on a speaker besides them, explaining the situation and Ritsuko-san on the background.
''That's an Angel?'' asked Asuka-san, cocking her hip to the side.
''Yep'' Misato-san popped the last 'p' on the word.
''It seems to be in a pupal stage, an undeveloped state prior to maturity'' explained Ritsuko-san.
''The top priority of this mission is to capture this Angel. You are to recover it alive, with as little damage as possible.''
''And if we can't?''
''Immediate destruction'' a tense silence followed while everyone was contemplating the simple answer ''Understood?''
''Yes, ma'am'' all the children answered in unison.
''This operation's pilot will be--''
''Me, me! I'll do the dive!'' exclaimed Asuka-san.
''Asuka'' the red pilot exclaimed in victory. Rei was pleasantly surprised that she was not the first pick for this ''Carry out the operation in Unit 02'' Misato-san finished.
''Yes, ma'am!'' replied Asuka-san cheerly ''This will be a piece of cake!''
''What about me?'' asked Shinji-kun.
''Unit 00 is a prototype, so it's incompatible with special equipment. Shinji, you and Unit 00 will stay at HQ on standby''
''Very well, ma'am.''
''Gee, that's too bad! You won't be able to go to the hot springs with us!'' mocked Asuka-san, looking mockingly at Shinji-kun.
''The A-17 is already in effect, so we need to get to work right away. Go suit up.''
'''Yes.''

Once dressed up, Rei was struggling with containing her giggles at Asuka's struggles and exclamations about her looks while her plug suit was inflated for the mission. Rei almost feels bad about Unit 02's appearance too but she figured that be too much.
"What is it wearing?!" Asked Asuka-san.
"Gear that protects against heat, pressure, and radiation. Type D configuration, meant for localized warfare" answered Ritsuko-san.
"That's my... That's my Unit 02?" The red head whispered, "No way! I'm out! I can't be seen in public like this! Embarrassment is Rei and Shinji's thing, so let them do it!" She cried and stomped.
"I'm sorry to hear that" Kaji's voice came from the speakers "I was hoping to see you in action, Asuka."
"No!" She hid behind the frame of the door the two pilots just came out of "I don't have the guts to let you see me dressed like this, Kaji-san!"
"This is a problem" Muttered Misato-san.
"It certainly is" agreed Ritsuko-san.
Damn, Rei whishes she did not overheard them, now she feels pressured to go instead; fine, whatever, she raised her hand to catch the women's attention"Um, I'll--" she paused once she realized the attention was indeed towards her but from more people than what she was expecting "I'll go in Unit 02."
Her hand was smacked down by an irate pilot "I don't want you laying a finger on my Unit 02! Sorry, girly! If it means stopping the Third, I'll go" She looked at her red unit and murmured "I know you look terrible, but hang in there, okay?"
