"Isn't Japanese people supposed to have a thing about casual contact?!" shrilled the redhead.

It was not fun to have Asuka-san yelling right beside her, nor Misato-san's laugh in the front about how "close" Nagisa-kun got to Rei so quick. Night already fell and the car was only illuminated by the comming street lights. The dastric changes in temperatures between her right and left sides, the pain on her arm from being pulled, and the soothing feeling of the hand that traveled from her shoulder to holding firmly on her waist, all of it made Rei overstimulated.

"OKAY!" Rei yelled uncharacteristically and sat straight; by sheer miracle nobody was touching anymore but she heard a ringing sound faintly, like when two crystal cups revertebrate against each other, she already misses his warmth. Curse her people pleasing tendensies "Misato-san are we almost there?" she asked with desperation.

"Yep, we're dropping Nagisa-kun first" the car was slowing down and Rei noticed that they were in the industrial district, close to where Shinji-kun lives then.

Once the car stopped completely, Nagisa Kaworu gave a last nudge to Rei's elbow to make her look at him. Their eyes were connected once again, a humming like a tunning fork was on the back of Rei's mind.

"I am happy to have been by your side" Rei could have sworn that her heart skipped a beat, he smiled like he knew it did "I'll see you tomorrow, Rei" he said her name with a purr, an accentuated 'R' that made her hands shake with his voice. She muttered a soft goodbye and then he gently closed the door.

The car started driving in no time, now it was quiet while Rei was fighting her heartbeat to normalcy and her face to stop smiling.

Asuka-san's voice cut throught the silence "You're pathetic."

The smile fell slowly "Excuse me?" Rei turned her whole body towards the other girl.

"You just met him, he gave you some attention and invasive body contact" flashes of her in bed consumed by grief "and you just melted by his side!"

Curled up in her bed, her back turned to her only family in the world, rubbing his hand by her spine while she sobs unaware of the world. A whisper never said 'You are mine'.

He kept her company.

Don't think about it.

He kept touching, but it was fine, he was trying to cheer her up. She was being difficult for her daddy. He loves her, she knows that, somehow she does.

He only took care of her.

Was I still dressed?

"It's ok baby, Daddy is here."

I was, I think.

Right?

"So WHAT?!" emotions bubbled on her throat, the discord she heard of his heart getting fainter and fainter. Her response only made the other pilot even madder but before she could say anything the car stopped and Rei's side was opened by the building's porter, the kind faced old man that greets her in the mornings when she gets out of the building.

Rei turns quickly and takes her bag. Getting out of the car, walking towards the elevator, and waiting inside of it all mixed together as if she was fast forwarding a video.

"Rei," her father said warmly when he opened the door "welcome home" his hands held her arms just below her shoulders, the firm hold was burning cold, it sent shivers down her back.

"Babygirl" he didn't say but something in him did "Mine" it continued.

"I'm back" she meekly replied, not knowing what to do other than step closer and let herself be embraced "missed you."
