The phone line buzzed through Ember's ear as she waited for Alice to pick up the phone."Yello?" she said from the other line.
"Green," Ember responded, smiling. "Are you home?"
"I'm just about to leave for work," she responded. "Is there something you needed?"
Ember glanced at Max as he stared through the windshield. "Nope," she said then. "I'm on my way home, though. My day has ended. I'll see you soon?"
"Yeah," Alice responded. "I'm leaving here at about two, and it's one-fifty, so hurry up."
"Right," Ember responded, pulling the phone from her ear.
She gazed up at Max then. "Change of plans."
"Oh?" he responded.
"She's home until two, so park down the street, I'll walk back and open my window when she's gone, okay? Sneak in through that way." She pointed a finger at him. "Don't go through the front door, mister. It has a camera that will alert her when someone's at the door."
He gazed back at the road. "Aight."
She smiled then. "I'll text you when I'm ready, okay?"
He gazed over at her. "Why do I hear mischief in that sentence?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," she stated, pressing her head to the seat behind her.
He just shook his head in amusement.
"I still won," she stated then, "you're staying at my place."
He smiled at her. "There's the answer."
"I couldn't hold it in," she replied.
"Even though you clearly cheated," he stated, brows raised.
"Uh, no," she responded, leaning up and looking at him fully, "there were no rules on cheating, Max. I could've slammed you against a tree and knocked you unconscious if I wanted to. There were no rules."
He shook his head in defeat. "You're too smart for me."
She laughed softly. "I know."
