Twenty minutes later, Ember found herself weaving through the house of mirrors with Max, smiling as she touched the walls carefully before going forward.

He watched in amusement at her excitement, seeing that she was shaking slightly with how much fun she was having.

But suddenly she forgot to check a wall and face-planted into one, yelling out.

Max laughed then, making Ember shoot him a look, but when his laughter trailed off, she just smiled.

And by the time they exited the house of mirrors, got some breakfast at a shop, and then succeeded in getting ice cream, twelve o'clock struck, and they now found themselves walking down a street.

"I haven't heard from Sammy in a while," Ember stated, glancing behind her as Max followed. "Is she alright?"

"She's fine," Max assured her. "She's getting intel on Elijah and such. So far, she's found nothing, but she won't stop looking. Your safety is her priority, too, Emby."

She nodded in response, enjoying the warmth of the sun fanning on her cheeks.

"I learned something else about you," Max stated then, making her turn and glance at him curiously.

"Oh?" she wondered, walking backwards. "What's that?"

"You're an adrenaline junkie," he smiled, "like me."

Before she could respond, he caught her arm and reeled her to the right, making her yell out when they entered an alleyway.

"Max!" she protested.

But his wings tore from his shirt, and he swung her up in his grip as he launched into the sky, Ember squealing at the light feeling consuming her.

After ten seconds of Max going over a hundred-miles-per-hour, and Ember closing her eyes to protect her sight from the harsh winds, he dropped down into a valley of trees, her clutching onto his shirt as he landed onto the forest floor, setting her on her feet.

"What are we doing here?" she questioned him, watching him curiously as he caught her arm and pulled her to the edge of a tree line.

Her eyes widened when they stopped at a cliff, Max pulling off his shirt and jacket without question and smirked at her.

"Uh..." she uttered. "May I ask what the hell you're doing?"

"It's called fun," he responded.

She gasped when he bent his knees and sprung up, and her mouth opened in protest when he went backwards.

Off the cliff.

Ember screamed his name, dashing over to the edge to catch him, but he was already falling and laughing.

She stopped then, a sudden relief washing through her when she found there was a large body of water surrounding them about a hundred feet from the cliff.

She winced when Max curled up his feet, hooting as he collided with the waves, a loud splash echoing through the mountains.

Ember watched curiously as his head popped up and he tossed his hair out from his face, smiling up at her as he treaded water.

"C'mon, Angel!" he called. "It's not as cold as it looks!"

She glanced around nervously before yelling back, "Is it scary?"

Even from a distance, she watched his brow arch. "Do you care?" he questioned.

She paused, glancing up.

Honestly? Not really.

She then gathered all her courage and backed away from the cliff, taking a deep breath to calm her anxiety.
