"Guys!! Pay attention. Answer to my question first. How many members does a family have? "

Kavya asked with her fake enthusiasm.

"Mostly a family has minimum 3-4 members and perhaps there are chances of more members as well"

A girl's voice was heard and later everyone agreed with her.

"Then Avani has no family"

Kavya spoke out loud with a smirk on her face.

Everyone laughed out loud as if they heard joke of the millennium.

There was this girl crying in the corner.

She kept her head low and felt no one was there to listen her cries.

"Ayyo why are you crying? "

She clicked Avani's photo.

"Guys! Look here, this is the family photo of Avani, Isn't her family cute? "

Kavya said while laughing like a witch and showed everyone Avani's photo.

Avani couldn't face the humiliation anymore.

She ran out of the hostel and went to the garden area where she found no one but she could see a guy.

Her vision was blurry due to tears.

She wiped her tears and saw him. It was him.

AKASH.

She went and sat beside him.

He was busy watching Instagram reels on his phone.

He felt someone beside him and turned his head to look who that person was.

He witnessed Avani, but not the sunshine girl instead the girl whose eyes where filled with tears just like how lakes are filled with rain during monsoon.

"Avani! "

His voice was low.

Almost inaudible.

Even his voice got struck in his throat after seeing her in disheartened appearance.

"Akash! Don't speak anything till I complete what I have to say."

Even though she whispered, he could hear her clearly.

"Why do people hate me for being an orphan, Akash? "

There was silence.

Akash couldn't believe his ears anymore.

"Was this girl orphan? "

He questioned himself.

Though they spent majority of their time doing project together but they didn't feel it was necessary to know each other's personal life. So he never questioned her.

Neither she.

Avani continued "I know for a fact that I am not supposed to be loved by anyone but atleast, I should be respected, should'nt I? . "

Tears fell off her eyes.

Akash's heart wretched looking at Avani who was nothing to him but all he wanted to do was to hug her tightly and tell her that he is there for her.

He controlled himself.

He can't do that to her.

"Avani, I have no idea what you are going through now and I can never understand it. For God's sake, stop crying."

Akash tried his best.

Even in his dreams, he never consoled one.

He didn't know what to do.

He passed water bottle to her.

She drank the whole bottle in a go.

In order to change topic, Akash spoke with a bit of excitement.

"Actually Avani, our results will be out anytime soon. So, all the best yaar"

Avani chuckled a bit.

"Hope it doesn't disappoint like how my fate does everytime."

"Hey! Chill. Everything will be sorted."

Akash assured with a genuine smile.

His smile was enough to make her day.

Finally, she smiled .
