Athena's Festival

I knew Nico didn't like to be touched. It was common knowledge around Camp. Which was why I made sure I was only holding his shirt as I pulled him into the infirmary.

Will looked up from where he was bandaging Layla's arm. "What's going on?" Will asked.

"Layla, out," I said.

"What-" the daughter of Iris began.

"Out," I demanded.

Will finished up her bandage and she left. I locked the door behind her. I turned back to the couple. "Okay, what are we going to do?" I asked.

Will blinked. "What do you mean?" he asked.

I felt my eyes go wide. "What do I mean? What do you mean what do I mean? I mean the prophecy. Remember? Rachel only spoke it three days ago."

"We haven't forgotten," Nico said.

"Then why haven't we gone to Chiron? Mr D? Someone!" I insisted. "This kind of thing isn't something you ignore."

"Aren't you the one that said we shouldn't worry about something that we can't control?" Will asked.

I wanted to punch him. "Will, this is different," I protested.

"How?" Will asked.

My hand rested on Terrorem's handle. I couldn't say the thousand reasons in my head. Because Alyssa's ghost is involved. Because I'll have to face her. Because you don't know about my greatest sin. Because you should hate me. "It's Tartarus Will. I don't know about you but I'd rather get that over with if we all know we're going."

"You're right," Nico said. "You are, Lizzie."

"Don't call me Lizzie, Neeks," I told him.

"Don't call me Neeks, Lizzie," he countered. "You do have a point. But at the same time we have Malcolm's festival in a few days. And after everything with Apollo, I think we all deserve a small break like that. So we will tell Chiron. Just... after."

I felt like collapsing. I sat down on one of the cots and ran a hand over my face.

"Liz, you okay?" Will asked.

"Haven't really been sleeping well," I admitted.

"The last few days?" he questioned, sitting on the cot beside mine.

"The last few years," I said.

Will handed me the pillow from his cot. "Here, take a rest. You look like you need it."

I swallowed. I didn't want to. Each night since the prophecy the nightmares had been getting worse. Alyssa's blood would choke me as I bit her. She would slash my own neck. She would send her dagger through my heart. She would reach up with her dead hands and choke me. I would die every night and wake up feeling like I couldn't breathe. It was everything I deserved.

Now, sleeping felt more like a burden than anything else.

"It's okay," Will coaxed.

I took the pillow and placed it at the head of the bed. I laid down, not wanting to sleep but my body needing to.

She was there. She always was.
