"What are you doing up?" Jordan asked. He rubbed his eyes, peeking out at the barely risen sunlight.
I shrugged, swallowing the cereal. "I've gotten used to waking up early. Plus, I'm still on New York time. You want something to eat?"
"I'll get it," he said. He went to the coffee pot and poured some of the beverage into a mug. "I don't really have much. I don't have much of an appetite."
"You're good," I told him. "Didn't expect you to have an entire pantry stocked away." I noticed the design on the mug and chuckled. "You actually kept that?"
He furrowed his brows and took a sip. "Of course I did. It was from you."
I wasn't sure how to respond to that. It was sweet and kind. Something I wasn't really used to with me and my siblings. Of course we loved each other. It was just an under a layer of teasing and arguments. I waved my spoon at the radio in his kitchen. "Your... radio thing kept going off early. Something about a relay station."
Jordan furrowed his brows and turned one of the dials.
"...Clark?" a voice asked.
"This is Clark," a female voice responsed. "I got a 10-91V at the relay station on the north side of town. Got 10-54 too."
"Copy that, ambulance on its way."
"10-91?" I asked.
"Animal attack," Jordan responded. His voice was shaky. He grabbed a granola bar and went back to his room. "I gotta get down there. I'm gonna call Scott, tell him to pick you up and take you down there."
"Are you sure?" I questioned.
There was an audible sigh as he walked out in his uniform. "As much as I hate it, we might need you there. You might be able to see more than I can, and you know things I don't. Even though my entire body is telling me to just lock you in here."
"I'd climb out a window," I replied. He looked at me, shocked. "I've climed and fallen from higher than that in training."
"Your camp scares me," he stated. He walked over and kissed my forehead. "See you later, Liz."
===============================================================
Scott drove a motorbike. I was a bit shocked when he even pulled up. At first I thought I would have to walk to the relay station.
He opened the visor on his helmet and held out his other helmet.
"Thanks," I said. I made sure my straps were tight and pulled on the helmet. I got on the back of his small bike and pulled the visor down. I grabbed the edges of the bike and nodded. He nodded back and put on the gas. I gripped the edges of the bike tighter.
I can honestly say I prefer riding a pegasus over the bike. Or Mrs O'Leary. Or anything else at all. It was too fast and I didn't like how far Scott leaned into the corners. I didn't really feel too safe on the bike.
When we arrived, I was more than happy to step off.
"I'm riding back with Jordan," I told him.
He chuckled a little. "It wasn't that bad was it?"
"I prefer a rabid horse over that," I stated.
Scott laughed, then groaned from his wound. I couldn't help but look at where his wound was. I didn't forget that moment in his hallway, when he called me the name of my dead sister.
I still wanted to ask him about that.
Jordan walked out from the relay station. He nodded in acknowledgement.
