"Hey Cora!" Shouted my best friend, Tara from across the school hallway, "Do you know what day it is?" she shouted unnecessarily loud when she was now right next to me. She has some bad ADHD, so do I but I'm not loud about it like she is.

"Yes I do. It is the last day of school!" I shouted as we both squealed and got weird looks from others in the hall. "What are you looking at, Rebecca?" I said rudely to a girl looking at us as she gave me a dirty look and hurried off. I don't like that girl. Never have, never will.

"I cant believe the day has finally come! Can you believe it? I bet you can't! Oh my goodness!" She squealed again practically tackled me in a hug. I had to pry her off me. It was difficult.

"Ok. We have to get through the rest of the day, so let me go to 1st period so you can skip until lunch and be with Josh." I said as I started to walk off. Josh. Gross. I don't really like Tara's new boyfriend. There has always been something off about him that I just never understood. I always felt like he was implying something whenever he talked to me but it just never made sense. Oh well. I guess I will just leave Tara to her crazy. She left and I headed for 1st period.

Mr. Madison was the meanest teacher in all of the school. I'm glad I only have to deal with him for 45 more minutes before he is out of my life for the whole summer. I still have a year of school left after this, I'm in the 11th grade now and am going to be in the 12. He is really the only teacher I will not miss. He won't let us do anything fun that normal 16-year-olds would actually like. He is our history teacher and part of the reason why I hate that class so much. That and the fact that I have to sit next to Rebecca.

As I entered the room, I saw Mr. Madison sitting behind his desk on his laptop typing. Only 3 others were in the room; Rebecca, this nerdy boy named Irwin, and- who is that?

I literally stopped walking just to get a good look at him. Wow. He is hot. His blue, floppy hair lays over forehead in just the right way so that one eye is covered and the other is, wow. His eyes are the most peircing shade of blue I have ever seen. He wore a black Nirvana t-shirt and ripped blue jeans. I have never seen a more beautiful person in my life. He stares at the ground and when he looks up, its like the rest of the world disappears.

It is only the 2 of us standing in the classroom.

"Hi." He says in a deep voice that sends a shiver down my spine.

"Hi." I say as I wave my hand a little. Why did I do that?

"I'm Jake." He held out his hand and I shook it.

"I'm Cora." I say as somebody shoves me out of their way and I fall right into Jake's arms. Our chests are now touching and as I look up at him he looks down at me, him being slightly taller.

"Mr. Harrison, Ms. Michaelson, please take yours seats."

I sit down in my usual seat and Jake sits next to me, seeing as there is only the spot next to me available. I stiffen because of how close we are. He makes me nervous and I'm not sure why.

"We will begin class," Mr.Morgan starts,"With introducing Jake Harrison, our newset edition to the school. Would you like to come up and tell the class about yourself?" Jake stands and goes to the front of the room. He stands before everyone and starts to speak.

"Um, hey, everyone. I'm Jake, my family just moved here and wanted me to make friends so that's why I'm here on the last day of school." he walks back to his seat. As he sits back down, I give him a smile. He smiles back and my heart flutters. He reminds me of myself. His obvious social awkwardness, a mirror of mine, but I am better at hiding it.

Class proceeds as usual and when it ends, I stand and pick up my book bag before makeing my way to the door. Before I can leave I feel a hand on my shoulder. I already know who it is. "Hey Jake."

"Hey Cora. I was, um, wondering if you could show me were, um, Mrs. Douglas's room is?"

"Ok. I have her next too. Do you want to sit with me when we get there? She is always late." I stop myself before I start rambling and scare him away. He nods and I meantally cheer for making a friend besides Tara and her too-happy self. Some times I wonder if she is constantly high. I can tell sometimes, most times. But others...

As we make our way to Mrs.Douglas's room, Jackson Winney, the school jerk, pushes Jake into the lockers and laughes when he sees that he cut his head. I rush over,"Oh my god, are you ok? Fuck your bleeding. We need to go to the nurse." I start to pull him away before he stops and I look back to see him staring at Jackson.

Jackson trips over his own feet, followed by his goons tripping over him, and Jake smiles. Almost like he did it and he was proud of his work. I finally pull him away and into the nurse's office. As we enter, the nurse looks up and motions for him to sit on the small, padded table that they have in all school nurse offices.

I litterally push Jake onto the table and he groans," I wouldn't have had to do that if you had just sat down..." I mumbled under my breath." He just looks up at me and smiles. Why is he smileing?

"What happened, Cora?" Yes, I get sent in here enough that the nurse knows my name. It may be embarrassing but it's true.

"Jackson Winney pushed Jake into the lockers." I said as the nurse checked his head.

"You should be fine, you just need a bandaid. It looks worse than it is, heads just bleed a lot." She puts a bandaid on the cut and smooths it down before sending us, with a pass, so Mrs. Douglas's room.

When we get there, she asks where we were,"At the nurse." I say.

She nods but says, "Why?" She asks.

"Some Dick named Jackson Winney pushed me into a locker and sliced my head." Jake said, obviously not knowing that Jackson was in the room and that Mrs.Douglas is very strict about the no swearing rule.

"What did you call me?" Jackson says as he stands from his chair in the back row.

"I called you a-" he is cut off by Mrs.Douglas.

"Watch your mouth..."she warns.

"-D-word! I called you a D-word!" Everyone laughs at his failed attempt to stand up for himself and he lowers his head and stares at his feet.

"Leave him alone, Jackson. For fucks sake, what did he ever do to you?" I say to Jackson as his smile immediately drops. He walks up to us.

"Why do you care? Your such a loser..." he says and his goons laugh with him.

"I care because he is my new friend and when you mess with my friends you mess with me so shut the fuck up and leave him the hell alone!" I shout and earn a glare from Mrs.Douglas and Jackson, and a smile from Jake. He has such a pretty smile...

"You three, in the hall now!" Mrs.Douglas yells. We all go out into the hall and I lean against the wall. Jake follows after me wile Mrs.Douglas tries and fails to get Jackson into the hall.

Jake turns to me, "Thank you for standing up for me. I'm not really good at that..."

"Well neither am I, "I say back honestly, "I was surprised I didn't die in the prosess from fear. I get nervous really easily..."

"So do I." Is all he said until there was complete silence. Awkward silence, to be exact. We kind of just stared at eachother. It was weird. But this gave me time to really look at his facial features. He had a nose ring, much like mine, that I hadn't noticed before. And his eyes are so beautiful. So blue, matching his hair. Mine match my hair too. The purples in my hair are the same shades mixed in with the brown in my eyes just like his blue hair and his blue eyes. It's really weird how much alike we are. And that makes me all the more attracted to him...
