"No I most certainly will not!" I yelled at Cora. She was asking me to do something that I was not willing to do.
"What's all the fuss about?" Nick asked as he walked back into the room.
"She wants me to change who she is! I will not!" I never really yell so I guess that is why Nick looked so confused at the moment. He walked over and sat on the bed next to Cora.
"Hey," he starts, "what's going on?" He asks in a sweet and soft voice as he puts a hand on her shoulder.
"I can't do thins anymore." She says, "I can't sit here anymore and act like everything is ok. It will never be ok again. Now that Jake is gone, now that Tara is gone, not to mention I killed her, I will end up doing something stupid if I keep thinking."
He wraps her up in a hug and she begins to cry softly onto his shoulder. They are true friends, but if she makes me erase her mind, she will not remember him. I would hate for that to happen.
"Please, Ian." She says. "Please, you don't want me dead, do you? Because if you don't take my memory, that's what will happen. I just need the pain to stop."
Nick sighed and looked at her hard. He said, "Will you try, for me?"
"No, Nick, I can't."
"For Jake then? He wouldn't want that to be how it all ended, he wouldn't want you to change either." Nick was being sincere for once in his life and Cora nodded hesitantly. Days went by as Cora did nothing, said nothing, ate nothing. If she didn't eat soon she would die, just like Jake.
I find myself nodding. If the pain is that horrible, I have to do this for her. I said, "Ok. Fine, I'll help you."
Cora steps up to me. She puts her hands on either side of my face and then kisses the top of my head, standing on her tip toes to reach. She does the same to Nick, causing him to blush, and then I place my hands gently on her head.
I start to say the words to take away everything that is her. She says quietly, "Goodbye." And then she falls to the floor. She won't wake up until this time tomorrow.
I took away everything about her; her memories, her thoughts, her feelings, even her name. She looks different now, too. Her long white hair was replaced by medium length red hair, and her pale white skin was now tanned and littered with freckles. She now had blue-green eyes instead of the purple ones drone before. She resembled my sister. I guess that who I was thinking of when I created her new self. Her new name was Ali and she would love to sing. She would have a few good friends and not many enemies. She would be good. She would have no memory of anything or anyone from the clouds.
Her pain would be gone.
And that's all that mattered. I would watch over her and make sure that she didn't get into trouble, her powers being taken too.
I had just now realized that I was crying and so was Nick. We would build her a new life, a better life. Because the only life that a fairy could have would be filled with pain and misfortune.
