Hi guys! If you couldn't tell by the title, I'm going to be talking about pimples today (which is actually disgusting for both of us, trust me). But more specifically, I'm going to be talking about why you get pimples and blemishes.

Why am I getting pimples?

1. In teens, a hormone called androgens are one of the leading contributors of acne. During puberty, both genders produce an excess amount of this, which makes the skins oil glands larger, which produces more oil.

2. In women and girls, pimples and acne are caused by the changing hormones about 2-7 days before your period.

3. Genetics also play a role in acne, meaning that if your parents struggled with acne as a teen or even an adult, you probably inherited that too.

What you can do to prevent pimples:

1. If you're going to buy an acne cleanser (which often times have lots of nasty chemicals; so making one yourself can be helpful) make sure that it has salicylic acid in it

2. Moisturize your skin daily, if your skin is too dry or too oily, you'll break out.

3. Don't wear makeup unless you really have to, because a lot of acne breakouts in girls is caused by makeup. If you're going to buy cosmetic products, make sure that they're labeled as "noncomedogenic" so that you won't get acne.

4. Stay away from harsh oils, fragrances, or gels in your hair. Not only are they bad for your hair follicles, but they also clog up your pores if in your face.

5. Steer clear of the sun. If its hot out and you know that you'll be out in the sun, apply sunscreen just to be safe. Harmful rays from the sun can irritate skin.

6. Avoid touching your face. It sounds simple, but oils and dirt from your fingers can irritate skin that is about to breakout, and can cause even worse acne.

7. Keep your face clean. Wash your face everyday, but don't over wash, because this can lead to drying out of your skin. Keeping your face dirt free is a key factor in preventing acne.

I hope this helped you guys get familiar with why you have pimples, blemishes, and just acne in general. When anything improves for you, don't hesitate to send me a message or comment! I'd love to hear it!
