the night before syaoran's birthday was nice. thank the spirits.

it was just me watching syaoran and his friends talk and laugh. i liked his group of friends.

it was two girls and three guys including him and they all got along pretty great. he was the youngest and they were all fifteen already.

thankfully, they weren't making a mess everywhere, weren't disturbing others, they were probably the nicest teenagers i ever met.

one of the girls, mina, turns to me and asks me something.

"auntie, what do you think about dyeing my hair pink?" she asks sweetly.

"i say go for it." i shrugged.

"no!!" they all yelled in unison. i was taken back but they it sudden yell and then they all laugh at my reaction.

"why?!" i chuckled.

"cause she's dyed her hair ten times in the past year. that's not an exaggeration, by the way." syaoran's friend, hoya says.

"ten times? and your hair is this shiny and healthy?" i ask her. she smiled, her shiny black ponytail bouncing with her nodding her head.

"that's impressive." i muttered.

"don't encourage her. she's gonna fry her hair so bad, she'll go bald before the end of the year." hoya said.

mina picks up a green bean on her plate and throws it at hoya, making him laugh out. he picks it up off his shirt and eats it.

i chuckled softly at syaoran and his little group. how happy he looked when he was with them.

the check came and i paid for all the kids, even though their parents had given them money to pay for themselves.

as the kids all walked out the of restaurant, syaoran hung back to tell me something.

"thanks for everything, mama." he says.

"aw, of course, sweetie. did you have fun with your friends today?" i ask him as he hooks his arm with mine.

"yeah, it was great. i was actually kinda worried before today that you'd forgotten to do anything." he said.

i look at him. he had gotten so tall, he was just an inch shorter than me.

"what? why would you think that?" i chuckled.

"i dunno, everything with blossom. you're raising yasuko too. everything with work, i just thought you and moms would be too busy to organize anything." he shrugs.

my eyes softened and i thought more about what he said. i just then realized how preoccupied i had been with everything else that i hadn't realized syaoran's birthday would be today until a couple weeks ago.

"i know, babe. i'm sorry, it did slip my mind a while ago. but it's not cause i don't care about you. you know that right?" i told him.
