Monday/March 1

In the wee small hours of the morning.

Letty told me to rest but my mind was too hyper off fantasies. So I went down to my basement and played pool for hours. The solo game wasn't a distraction, 'cause I could easily picture me fucking Letty on this purple surface, but it kept me in the house where she told me to be.

Leaning to set up my next shot, my eyes darted to the right at my pager buzzing on the edge of the table. The numbers on the greenlit face were upside down from my point of view, and I didn't care enough to decipher it.

Not changing my stance, my focus snapped back to the game. I struck the cue ball and stood up straight, watching my move play out perfectly.

Sixties soul music poured in from the speakers surrounding me. "So people get ready, there's a train a-coming. Hmph!" Shaking off chills, I went for the solid yellow. It went where I wanted it. "Don't need no ticket!" Stomping the floor, I finished the sing-along in the deepest part of my voice. "You just—thank the Loooord."

In the quiet few seconds before Al Green came on, I heard the vibration on the wood and saw my pager was going off again. This time I picked it up. "Oh shit." It was my baby.

Jogging up the stairs, my good spirits still had me crooning all the way to the kitchen to the nearest phone. Elbows on the counter, I dialed Letty's house.

The music was loud enough to carry upstairs so I was singing while her phone rang in my ear. "I said leaving you sure ain't no fun to me, baby."

"Hello?"

"'Cause I believe in you," I sang to my new audience. "And I would like what you do to me. Baby, you make me feel like a brand-new man."

"Uhh..."

"Baby, another thing I'd like to say. Hm. I'll take the love and affection. Wherever I can, baby." Hearing her laugh broke me out of character. "Hello?" I said laughing too.

"I knew you weren't asleep. This doesn't sound like rest."

"My body don't know what rest is. I crash."

"Well get ready to crash into me because my brother is back home already."

"Huh?"

"Can I come over? I can't sleep."

"You're cute for asking."

"I know. So do I just put in the gate code or one of your guards will stop me first?"

"No, just put in the code. I'll let them know. And bring something cute 'cause we have a date tomorrow."

"A date? Where?"

"Don't worry, it's at the house. I know you don't wanna be out with me."

"That statement is very inaccurate. I didn't turn down your offers because I don't want to be seen with you. I was already dating someone else."

"Oh, so we're dating now?" Got her with that one. "Remember to park in the garage, okay?"

"Okaaay."

"Okaayyy."

"Okaaay, byyye."

29 minutes later.

By time I made it to the garage, Letty was already out of her red VW and looking around at the five vehicles I had parked in there. It was hard for me to ground myself in the moment of finally seeing her again, this new version of her that wanted me to sex her down. She wasn't all done up to impress either. With no makeup and unbraided hair, her perfection was effortless.
