This mother f'er, I swear. Letty was vigorously wiping down her already sanitized counter, upset Prince had yet to call her back. An hour had passed and then another before she called Virginia for him. She got connected to his room for the first time but it rang endlessly. So now she was trying to keep occupied until he got back to her.
Get on my damn nerves. Moving to the sink, she started washing the one single dish in the basin, a cup Jax had tossed in just minutes before. This is how you get your ass cursed out. The hour was open for guests to arrive. The small clock hand was on the 4, but 4 meant 5-ish in her family which is why her grandmother was being brought by at 6:30. So then she was frustrated at that. She didn't know what to do with herself.
"Letty, chill out," Julian said coming in the kitchen. "You and Ma need to sit down somewhere." Ms. Jackee was in the dining room sweeping up air.
The ding-dong of the doorbell sent a head shaking Julian to the front of the house, and on a last-minute thought, Letty jogged to her pantry to hide Jax's box of fruit snacks and anything else eye-catchingly colorful. Her little cousins were not about to send her back to the grocery store 24 hours after her last trip.
"I'm here! I'm here!"
Letty knew that miniature voice. "Is that my Bam-Bam!?" she yelled over her shoulder. Smiling from ear-to-ear, she cut off the pantry light and quickly walked towards the front door.
Ace came rushing into her once she reached the hall, hugging her legs before skipping his way into the living room to greet his BFF, and then Letty was left frozen in place, stuck on the presence of the man at the door.
Nuh-uh.
Was that really the man she was just cursing out telling Julian he ran away from his tour? Was that really Prince hugging her mother? It was, in the flesh. Prince's hands were full so his hugs weren't. In one hand was a golden high-gloss gift bag and against his back he held up a dress-bag. Adjusting his grip on the hook of the hanger, Prince's eyes acknowledged Letty. "Hi."
Forgetting to disguise it, she let the sight of him knock her off balance. He was dressed in pink high-waist trousers with the jacket and suede boots to match. His shirt underneath was black silk dotted in pink and the rag tied around his pompadour was patterned the same. There was a dreaminess in her eyes as she approached him with her hands over her chest. "Hi."
Stepping in front of him, giving her back to her mother and brother, Letty's arms slid around Prince's waist as he asked her some nonsense like how she was doing or something. That unique scent that he always left lingering in his fresh absences was potent in her nose, deepening her want for him.
The air in the room was suddenly thick with heat, and his half embrace kicked it up a few more degrees, but she still wouldn't let go. Not even when his hold fell weak to allow them to separate. She missed him, yes, but she also didn't want anyone to see the gloss her emotions put over her eyes.
