...I have 2 get something off my chest.
I love you.
Raven had to stop. She held the paper to her chest and took a deep breath before bringing the paper back in view. She started again from the top.
Raven thought the moment she had been waiting for was finally in motion. Prince was confessing that though he moved on, it was still Raven who had his heart, and that he was sorry for any pain he was causing. But she kept going, she kept reading. The more words her eyes swallowed the heavier her heart became...
...ur love is superficial.
...until it just dropped to her stomach.
The era of u & I is over now.
Raven's ego wouldn't dare let him have the last word. She wrote Prince back and then they were in the middle of a back-and-forth fax war. She knew he craved to hold her attention because his responses went from short phrases to one word. That was effort. Prince still wanted her. So she kept telling him to take her.
Don't fall asleep. Answer ur phone in 10 min.
And it worked, or so she thought.
The muted television bounced around light as Raven sat up in bed waiting for the phone to ring. She was pondering whether she really would go to his hotel or not if he was to really extend the invitation. Let's say she did...then what? Would she really sleep with him? Would he really try?
The ring came and she picked it up before it could sing a second time. Another deep breath and she brought it to her ear. "Hi," she greeted, bringing her blanketed knees to her chest.
"Hey."
Raven bit her lip in fury. It wasn't the voice she expected.
"It's Letty."
Raven knew that, rolling her eyes, silently screaming what the fuck at the door on the opposite side of the room. Prince was being an instigator. Of course he wasn't going to call. She was so mad she fell for it.
"Hello?"
"Yeah," Raven sighed. "Is Ace okay?" Raven's ego also wasn't about to be backed into a corner.
"Yes, I sent him to bed hours ago. He's fine. Are you okay?"
"I'm great." Raven was trying her best to match Letty's tone. It wasn't rage but it also wasn't pleasant. It was hard to read and Raven didn't want to jump to conclusions. Maybe Letty was extending an olive branch. Maybe Prince told her that Raven freaked hearing they were married. Maybe this was a woman-to-woman check-in. "It's past midnight so—why are you calling?"
