Daydreaming through lovelorn eyes, Letty sat in front of the window of the school library, elbow on the sill, chin in palm. The lunch hour was coming to an end and her cup of yogurt was still sealed. But she didn't notice the time nor her hunger. Life was a traffic light stuck on yellow when Prince wasn't in her ear. Always waiting, she had forgotten how to live.

That morning, she walked into the school in black pants and a black turtle neck, her textured hair gelled back into a simple bun over the back of her neck. Makeup? Jewelry? There was no time to doll herself up. She didn't even have time to pin on some earrings. That's what happens when you forget to set your alarm because you were too busy on the phone all night.

Both coworkers and kids looked at Miss Wizzo like she was an alien and all day her response was a head shake and a "I know, I know." Now on her lunch break, she sat on the stool, stuck in a fantasy set two weeks out in New York City.

"Hey."

Letty turned back to see Huey standing on the other side of the counter, tapping his fingers on the wood, reining in a smile that wanted to grow much bigger at the sight of her.

"Hey," Letty greeted back, barely tugging at the corner of her mouth. She had no real problems with Huey, she just rathered be in her head.

"Everything okay?" he asked, nudging his glasses to sit up on his red nose. "I saw you earlier and thought I should check on you. You don't look like yourself today."

Sighing, she said her line of the day and dragged her stool to sit opposite of him.

"I've never seen you with you no makeup and I have to say it... You are still hot stuff," he said, leaning to whisper the last part, though the room was empty of others.

Grinning, Letty thanked him, and then she signed into the computer on her right to avoid direct eye contact. "So what's up?"

"I just wanted to see how my friend was doing. I feel like it's been weeks since we talked."

It had been.

"Maybe we can grab a bite to eat this weekend?"

"Aww, I can't," she said with a glance. "I'm seeing someone now."

"I will take a wild guess and say things have gotten a tad more serious with you and your guy best friend?"

Letty nodded slowly, opening a new game of Solitaire.

"Why do you look so sad then?"

"Umm..." She studied the hand she was dealt. "I just..."

"Still has you feeling like a seat filler?"

Attention grabbed, she looked at Huey. "Excuse me?" And she asked it sweetly, honestly lost on his choice of words.

"You don't remember saying that?"
