Author's POV:

A normal day for the young merfolk girl involved swimming through the blue depths of the ocean, searching for her next meal. She swam towards a school of fish, her fin twitching in anticipation of their delicious taste. As she approached, she noticed that the school seemed to be smaller than usual, and she couldn't help but feel a twinge of worry in her belly.

After her morning swim, the girl visited her grandmother, a wise old creature who had lived for hundreds of years. She swam over to her grandmother's house, a vast cave littered with seashells and fish bones. Her grandmother welcomed her warmly, but her eyes seemed to be filled with a sadness that the young one couldn't quite understand.

"What's the matter, Grandmother?" the girl asked. "You seem upset."

"I am, my dear," her grandmother replied. "There's been a shortage of food for the merfolk and I'm worried. I've seen many of us go hungry, and I fear it will only get worse."

The girl's eyes widened. She had never seen her grandmother so sad before, and the thought of her friends and family going hungry filled her with a sense of dread. "Is there anything we can do?" she asked.

"I'm not sure, my darling," her grandmother replied. "But I'm glad you know about this. We need to stick together and help each other. Perhaps we can come up with a plan."

The girl nodded, feeling a sense of responsibility weighing heavily on her shoulders. She knew that with her grandmother's wisdom and her own determination, they would find a way to overcome the food shortage and make sure everyone was safe and well-fed. And so the young merfolk girl swam away, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

The young mermaid's heart sank. She had never seen her grandmother so distressed. "What do we do?" she asked, fear creeping into her voice.

"We must find a way to survive," she thought "We must go to the human world and ask for their help. It is our only chance."

T

he young mermaid knew that her grandmother was right, they need a plan ,
But going to the humans for help felt wrong. They had always seen the humans as a threat, with their nets and boats that caught their food. But if the tribe's food supply was gone, what choice did they have?

The young mermaid swam slowly to the surface, thinking hard about what she needed to do. The day was clear, and the sun was shining down over the water, its warm rays penetrating her scales. She took a deep breath and plunged back into the water, her mind racing with thoughts.

She had never spoken to a human before, and the thought of it made her nervous. But she knew that her grandmother was right - they needed a plan or they would starve. And so, she swam close to the surface, searching for a boat or a ship.

As she swam, she thought about what she would say to the humans. She needed to be clear and direct, but how would they react? She had heard stories from her clan mates about how brutal and uncaring the humans could be. They were a dangerous species, with their weapons and their nets.

But she had no other choice. She had to try. She had to save her people.

The girl swam quickly and noticed that boats of all sizes were out fishing. She swam under and past them, staying on her course, assured she was headed towards the humans. After a lot of swimming, she made it to the dock.

She was anxious to emerge from the water, but no matter how hard the fear gripped her, she would make herself reach the surface. Finally she mustered up the courage and broke through the water, raising her head above the surface and looking around her. She was surrounded by boats of all sizes, and she could see humans moving about on the decks, preparing their nets and gear for another day of fishing. She took a deep breath and took a step closer to them.
