As Jungkook made his way to his office, he couldn't help but smile. He felt like a new man since his meeting with Lisa, like all the stress and tension of the past few weeks had melted away. Even the thought of her brought a warmth to his heart.
When he arrived at his office, he found himself greeting his employees and staff with a smile on his face, something he very rarely did. He exchanged friendly greetings with them, asking about their families and their weekends. For the first time in a long time, he felt like he was actually part of a team, like he was connecting with the people around him.
As he settled into his office and began reading through his emails and reports, he discovered that he was actually enjoying the work, not just seeing it as a means to an end. The tasks, no matter how mundane, felt meaningful, and the success of the company felt like his success. He even found himself getting creative, suggesting new ideas and strategies that could take the company to the next level.
As the day wore on, Jungkook found himself lost in his work, feeling more fulfilled than he had in years. He even worked a bit later than usual, wanting to make sure that everything was finished to the highest standard.
He was working on his laptop when suddenly his father burst into his office. Taken aback, Jungkook felt a surge of annoyance at this interruption to his finally good day. Frowning, he looked up at his father and blurted out a curse, frustrated that he couldn't even have a few moments of peace.
"What do you want?" Jungkook demanded, trying to keep the irritation out of his voice.
His father, not one to back down from a fight, responded with a sarcastic remark. "Oh, excuse me for interrupting your work, Your Majesty."
Jungkook rolled his eyes, feeling his blood boil at his father's words. This was exactly why he never brought his dad into his personal life - everything turned into a competition, and Jungkook always came up second best.
Determined not to let his father spoil his day, Jungkook decided to try and keep the conversation civil. "What do you need, Dad?" he asked, using a tone that was somewhere between sarcasm and sincerity.
His father, taking the hint, got down to business. "I need to know why your quarterly reports are late," he said, looking at Jungkook with a stern expression.
Jungkook sighed, knowing that this wasn't going to end well. He had been putting off the reports for weeks, trying to keep up with everything else that was going on in the company. But now he had no choice but to face the consequences.
"I'm working on them," he said, trying to sound confident. "I just need a bit more time."
His father grimaced, not fooled by Jungkook's excuse. "You've had plenty of time," he said, using his son's full name with a hint of displeasure. "I expect the reports on my desk by the end of the day."
Jungkook nodded, feeling defeated. He knew that his father would never understand the pressure he was under, and he just wanted to get through the conversation without any more friction. "Fine," he said, turning back to his laptop and trying to concentrate on the work at hand.
His father sat on the edge of the desk, a smug smile on his face. "Oh, what's the matter, son? Scared I'm going to mess up your perfect little world?"
He felt his guts twist with anger, but he tried to keep his voice even. "No, Dad, I'm concerned about the impact this will have on our business."
"Oh, spare me your faux concern," his father sneered. "You always act like you care about people, but it's all just a front to make yourself look good. You're nothing but a manipulative little coward who's in way over his head."
Jungkook felt like he was going to burst. He had tried so hard to keep his emotions in check, but his father's words just kept pushing him over the edge. "How dare you talk to me like that!" he shouted, jumping to his feet. "I've worked my ass off to get where I am! You have no idea what it's like to be under this kind of pressure!"
His father just snorted. "Pressure? You have no idea what pressure is. You've lived your whole life with a silver spoon in your mouth, with no idea of how hard life really is."
Jungkook was practically see red now, his hands clenched into fists. "Enough!" he shouted, slamming his fist down on the desk. "I'm not going to listen to this anymore. Get out of my office!"
His father just shrugged and stood up, a satisfied grin on his face. "Fine, have it your way," he said. "But don't come crying to me when everything falls apart."
He watched him go, his heart pounding with anger and frustration. He knew that he had to do something to protect the mermaid, no matter what it took. He wouldn't let his father's greed and recklessness destroy everything he had worked so hard to build.
His father stood up from his desk suddenly and announced, "Oh, by the way, I told the workers and some trucks and bulldozers to go to the old factory today for some reconstruction work."
Jungkook was shaken by his father's sudden announcement. He had no idea that his dad had plans to renovate the old factory, and the thought of the workers and equipment arriving unexpectedly made him feel sick. But what worried him the most was the existence of the mermaid, Lisa. He had become close to her and couldn't bear the thought of her being harmed in any way.
Jungkook started thinking of possible solutions. Maybe he could warn the workers and ask them to be careful around the pool. But he knew that was a long shot, and he couldn't trust that they would keep Lisa's existence a secret.
As he watched his father leave the room, he felt a sense of panic wash over him. He knew he had to do something to save Lisa, but he couldn't risk his father finding out about her existence. He needed to act fast, before it was too late.
