Bella

Rosalie and Emmett gave me one last glance, looking at each other with a she must be insane look before leaving me with Alice. I leaned against my baby, wishing I could bring my bike to school sometime. I knew it was out of the question, but my true baby was getting rust.

The looks Emmett and Rosalie gave me bothered me. There wasn't any need to act that way. I was just going to say good morning to Edward when he showed up, maybe talk to him on his way to his first class. It wasn't like I was inviting him over to our house or anything.

I stared off into the forest, happy I could enjoy the beauty of the ice on the pine needles without getting cold. I still wore a hat and jacket over my pine green sweater. I knew Alice was slightly disappointed I wasn't wearing the newer clothes she gave me.

My eyes landed on the Chevrolet that pulled into the parking lot. I saw Edward through the window and watched as he parked the truck. It was a nice ride. It was still a truck of all things, but the silver color was pretty and it looked clean.

I hesitated as he went to the truck bed, most likely to organize his bag or something. Do I just go up to him? Should I wait? Maybe I'll talk to him at lunch. . .

Alice froze, mouthing 'no', and it all happened rather quickly after that second.

A sweet girl named Tessa sped into the parking lot in her Subaru Legacy Wagon. The car hit the ice wrong, angling it to go towards the parallel parking spots.

It would hit right. Where. Edward. Was. Standing.

He turned around and his green eyes met mine.

I didn't really have time to think about what I was doing after that.

Edward

I drove to school, surprised that driving on the ice wasn't too bad. I parked the car and got out, going to my truck bed so I could read for a few minutes and get my backpack organized.

A few seconds later, though, I heard the most horrible screeching only tires could make. A Subaru was sliding on the ice, heading right. Towards. Me.

I glanced around quickly and saw Bella staring with the most tortuous look on her face before she disappeared. I may have gone insane. She literally was gone in one second.

Everything happened really fast after that.

The van slided in a different direction, still going forward, I could tell it would now hit the corner of my truck bed. I also felt a cool, comforting hand grab my wrist and yank me away.

I jerked violently to the side, tripping and almost falling. Another cool hand grabbed my shoulder, steadied me, and I finally could focus on Bella as she sat me on the ground.

A loud noise sounded, and I turned my head to see the Subaru scrape against my truck, not stopping until the grass on the side of the parking lot grew too thick.

Immediately, students swarmed around us and I noticed Bella stiffen. I was slightly more focused on what. The. Fuck. Just. Happened? I reviewed what I just experienced and was shocked. If Bella was on the other side of the parking lot as I remembered, staring at me in horror, why was she not one of the students now surrounding me to ensure I was okay and then racing off to the car?

Not only that, the second she disappears the van changes course and a second after that she's pulling me out of the way.

I didn't have much time to digest the information when an ambulance arrived. Bella started walking away but I quickly grabbed the end of her jacket. I wondered if it would do anything but she stopped. I had a feeling she could have dragged me along with her if she ever felt inclined to do so.
