The next day I didn't hesitate to walk over to Edward. I don't think I've ever been so happy on a Monday, knowing that I can finally make a friendship work with Edward.
The word 'friend' was not enough for how I felt near him, of course, but it was the logical, the healthy, place to start.
"How did you sleep?" I asked him as I stopped in front of Edward. Edward, who spotted me once I was a few feet away, gave me his crooked grin. "Fine. How was your night?" He replied.
I bit my lip, wondering if it would be cruel to not tell him my family's stances on our public exchanges. "Diplomatic." I answered cryptically. True to fashion, Edward just arched a brow at me. I sighed, lowering my voice just in case.
"Alice found out that you knew. We don't keep secrets in our household, so the night required a lot of explaining, defending, arguing and reasoning." I would leave out the other options they suggested. He does not need to know Rosalie was more than ready to kill him. Well, Jasper was, too, but he backed down when he felt my emotions.
"Defending?" Edward asked incredulously. "Do they not like the fact you're talking to humans?"
"They don't like how I'm drawing attention to myself. We're different from others of our kind due to our diet, as you know, and some of us have trouble adjusting to that news. Some of them would go as far as to kill us off because of it." I explained.
"Who–"
"Later." I interrupted him, noticing we were about to be late. We both hurried off to our classes.

At lunch I sent a quick glance to my family before sitting at a different table. Rosalie and Jasper looked uncomfortable, or maybe ill at ease was the better word, but didn't give me a stern look or maybe she's gone insane look so I assumed it was fine. Alice had a vibrant smile on her lips and Emmett gave a discreet thumbs up.
I knew when Edward came in a minute later, his scent wafting over to me. I'm proud to say the scent doesn't bother me anymore. Edward glanced at my usual table, a faint frown forming, but noticed me a few tables over, nestled into the other corner of the cafeteria.
I chuckled as not even a few seconds after he pulled out his chair he asked, "Who would try to kill you?" in a hushed voice.
"No one would actively try to kill us. As in, fight us or do the dirty work–plainly because there are so many of us in a coven. But we have a ruling rank among us, the only coven larger than us, who would love ripping us to shreds if another vampire told them we broke one of their laws." I replied, studying the table. I half expected him to go back to his friend group. This was an awful lot to learn.
But a warm heat source slowly came closer, and his hand gently guided my face back up so he could see my face. My anxiety must have been clear on my face. "You think I'm going to bolt soon, don't you?" He asked softly.
"Please know I don't expect you to get tied into this. It would be better if you called me insane and backed away from the situation. If there's ever a moment you want to go back to normal life, please know I won't have any ill feelings toward you and won't bother you again." His facial expression was soft and I dare say maybe even a little loving at my breathy promise, but his eyes were filled with some form of determination.
"Lucky for the both of us," He assured me, "I find this hidden world–and a certain brunette–very interesting."
And the rest of lunch flowed with our usual banter, though we both had a soft spark in our eyes. After the bell rang we went into our biology class, watching a movie and both obviously fighting against an electric current between us.
Holding his hand wouldn't be bad, would it?
Weekend's here!!!!!!!!!! OK, so I'm going to focus more on milestones than them hanging out because we all know that if I wrote it the other way this fanfic would drag too much. So in between the chapters I write, you can imagine any casual thing for them to do in your mind. Maybe even write down or tell me what you envision in the comments? I'd love to hear them! I'm also going to start the build up for the true plot of the story, so hopefully things will pick up soon! Have a nice day/night and hopefully I'll update again soon!!!!
