I ran a hand through my hair, wondering if I should try to brush it or. . .? Joana, leaning against my bedroom door, laughed and went over to me, reaching up on tip-toes and messing up my hair again. "You're fine." She told me for the millionth time.
I sighed but forced a nod, tugging on the vest I put on. I decided on khaki trousers, a white button down and a navy vest. I wondered if I've ever been so nervous before, and then remembered asking Bella on the date we were going on was worse.
I asked her yesterday in the cafeteria, after three weeks of knowing what she was, and almost sagged in my chair with relief when she smiled and said yes. More than yes, actually, what she said was: "Of course I would love to go out with you. When would this date be?"
I only told her to wear more formal clothes if she wanted and that I needed directions to her house. She sent them to me via email and I told her the time I would be picking her up.
"Remember that I'm too young to be a great aunt!" Joana hollerd after me as I got into my truck-I love my silver chevy, but I really wish I had a car right now-and drove off.
I gasped at the house nestled into the small clearing, but my attention drifted to Alice and Rosalie waving at me.
"Hi, Edward!" Alice exclaimed as we met each other on the porch steps, her voice cheeky and her face smug. Rosalie had a similar expression, but she also seemed a little guarded. She began to open her mouth, but Bella came up to us before she could respond, seemingly appearing out of thin air.
"Let's not scare my date away." Bella snarkily said, but I was more focused on how stunning she looked. She was a goddess anyday, but I've always seen her in slightly baggy clothes, never knowing what lay beneath thick yarns or layered fabrics.
Tonight, she wore a royal blue dress that had a box neckline and ¾ sleeves. The skirt flowed down to just below her knees, and a baby blue fabric belt drew attention to her waist. I moved my gaze to her face, not wanting to have any reasons for people calling me a perv.
"You look enchanting." I told Bella, and the radiant smile I got in response made my smile grow wider.
"I should say the same for you." Bella mumbled, and she followed the path I had, gazing at me and then quickly moving back to my face. Alice chuckled, reminding me that I have yet to formally meet any of her family. Bella seemed to have the same thought, for me absentmindedly grabbed my hand and nodded towards the house.
Near the door everyone was smiling at us. "So." Bella began, "You know Alice and Rosalie." The two girls smiled at me, Rosalie's slightly more forced. "And Emmett and Jasper."
Emmett grinned and shared a look with Jasper, who shook my hand. "You hurt our little sister, we will make you regret the decision." Emmett threatened. I swallowed and nodded, knowing they meant every word. Bella shot them a glare.
"And these are our parents." Bella redirected, "Carlisle-who you've met before-and Esme."
"It's so nice to meet you." Esme claimed, shaking my hand.
"And it's nice to see you again." Carlisle tacked on. Bella clapped her hands together and bit her lip.
"So. . .are you finally going to tell me where we're going?" She asked, curiosity in her deep golden eyes. I smiled and, not thinking too much about it, wrapped an arm over her shoulder. My smile grew as she leaned into me.
"No. I think it will be more entertaining to have you find out yourself." I answered. She half-heartedly scowled, and after saying goodbye to her family we walked to the truck. Carlisle grabbed Bella's wrist, concern filing his expression.
